What is the downside of getting a 1080p TV to use as a desktop PC monitor? If it was equivalent to a dedicated PC monitor, I could also watch TV.

Sorry if this is a retarded question, I'm a food board guy.

Tv's have more delay than you realize. If you are playing fast paced you may notice. Also the refresh rate on tv's is not usually the same as a monitor even if they both say 60hz or 120hz. Some tv's do have a gaming mode though.

I have a dumb question:

is there any downside (besides the price) to buying a monitor that displays 2,560-by-1,440 if most of the content you use if for is 1080p at best ?

I have never tried but have heard it is best to watch on your screen's native resolution. Why would you get a 1440 monitor if all you have is 1080 content though?

for a potential pc build in the future

right now im looking for a monitor to use with my xbox 360 since my hdtv broke.

I guess my question is will the monitor be able to downscale and still look good with lower resolutions.

If you have a 27" monitor with a 1900x1200 native display and another 27" monitor with a 2550x1400 and you were to hook up an xbox 360 to both of them. im assuming it would look stretched out on the 2nd monitor by comparison to the 1900x1200, but wondering how bad it would look

I would do the 1440 because it would be the same aspect ratio. You may have the option of stretching it or just having black bars around the screen like watching widescreen.
