Publisher Financials (EA & Capcom) - Now With Sony & Namco

Surprised to see no posts about EA posting their financials since everyone hates them. I will say I was wrong and EA posted a pretty quarter. I'll also list other companies farther down.
EA - LINK
Capcom - LINK
Sony - LINK
Namco Bandai - LINK
Shipment figures below (just about everything except for Naruto and Run for Money did under expectations):
EA - LINK
quote:
Elsewhere, EA's other mainstays are still doing well with Battlefield 3 Premium having over 3.5 million subscribers to date and FIFA 13 having sold over 14.5 million copies in Fiscal 2013.
Despite its botched launch and less than stellar reviews, SimCity went on to sell a respectable 1.6 million units
Not everything at EA is going well, though, as sales for both Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 fell below expectations, though no sales figures were announced.
The publisher's non-GAAP digital net revenue increased a whopping 36 per cent with half of SimCity's sales being online and FIFA 13's digital sales increased 94 per cent over FIFA 12's the prior year. Of course, FIFA 13 sold fewer physical copies to accommodate for this, but its overall sales were still 30 per cent more than FIFA 12's.
While still small, Vita/PSP outdid all Nintendo platforms combined.
Capcom - LINK
quote:
Resident Evil 6 "did not meet with our [7 million] projection" and sold 4.9 million copies.
Dragon's Dogma became a "million seller", which is apparently "unprecedented" for an original title these days, but it was created by the largest dev team ever assembled by Capcom.
DmC Devil May Cry, meanwhile, "enjoyed stable popularity in overseas market and posted solid sales". There was no unit total to report, but Capcom mentioned 1.15 million sales in April, which is likely to be on-the-nose.
All-in-all, Capcom posted an expected profit of £19.42 million, down 56 per cent year-on-year but a profit nonetheless.
Wrote Capcom in its latest report: "In order to lower development costs and shorten time frame for development, Capcom will restructure its development organisations, which are the core parts of the company's business, increasing ratio of in-house developments by focusing on the overhaul of overseas development companies."
The entire company is due "streamlining measures", too.
"As for future prospects, the industry is expected to find an increasingly mature market of home video games, which is our core business segment. Even though a full line-up of new home video game consoles will eventually be released, the industry is likely to be in a period of scant new product releases over the near future, awaiting the full-scale launch of the next generation machines.
"In the meantime, development costs are projected to soar as advanced and multiple functions are added to hardware. Business alliances and consolidations may therefore occur in increasing numbers."
Sony - LINK
quote:
The PS3/PS2 totals are at 80.4 million compared to Xbox 360's 77.2 million. It’s not clear how much the PS2 shipped but if it did less than 3 million then the PS3 has officially surpassed the Xbox 360 in worldwide sales.
However, that is insignificant now. Sony is expecting increased sales for the next fiscal year due to the introduction of the PS4. The operating income will be flat YOY because of research and development, and marketing expenses for the new system.
Sony shifted slightly less software this fiscal year compared to the last one but the drop isn’t that big which shows that consumers are still buying a lot of PS3 games and it’s still a viable platform. The PS3 hardware and software sales along with PS4 sales should offset the expenses generated due to the next-gen shift.
The company has made $458 million in net income for FY 12 mainly due to sales of assets.
Namco Bandai - LINK
Shipment figures below (just about everything except for Naruto and Run for Money did under expectations):
quote:
(J/US/EU) Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – 1.5 million
(J/US/EU) Soulcalibur V – 1.05 million
(J/US/EU) Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations – 760,000
(US/EU) Naruto Shippiden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 – 1 million
(J) Tales of Xillia 2 – 500,000
(J) Run for Money Tousouchuu – 520,000
(J) Taiko Drum Master: The Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orb – 470,000

Are we going to see the indie games and niche franchises heading to the handheld market and leaving Nintendo completely in the dust..?
The sad thing is, I bet the vita is more powerful than the WiiU...

Those are just EA sales for the final quarter of the fiscal year. Mobile gaming did much more for EA than all of the handhelds combined.

Well, I know this isn't true.

We all know they make money. It just doesn't absolve them from doing the bad job that they do.

Hasn't been the case in recent times. They made an bunch of bad acquisitions that have no possibility of paying off.

Their financials actually look good. But why the use of Non-GAAP numbers? Seems puzzling to me. They are clearly making money but at what cost? I think it's at the cost of their consumer base. Not now, but maybe eventually.

i rag on EA as much as anyone but Battlefield 3 and Fifa are damn solid products
Dice and EA Canada are pretty good development teams.
It certainly is in EAs favor that they make a game for the most popular sport in the world. Oh, and this little tidbit as to why Fifa13 beats out Pro Evolution Soccer
fricking EA

Partially as a result of EA Sports' affinity to purchasing exclusive rights for their FIFA series, the games have historically lacked the sheer volume of licenses present in EA's offerings, with the most notable absences being the Premier League and Bundesliga. As such, team jerseys, names, and players may be inaccurate.
fricking EA

But why the use of Non-GAAP numbers?
A lot of game publishers use Non-GAAP and GAAP side by side, usually mentioning whatever they can use to make them look best. Not really needed this time around.

That's my point. Their GAAP numbers look sufficient enough. Why post the kindergarten version? I don't get it.
