good film, would watch again, but absolutely nothing "great" about it.

Thought it was really good.

It was the perfect 3 star movie. The only great part was in the blooper reel after the credits when JL's boobie popped out of her leotard.

Def overrated. Thought 500 days of summer and garden state for similar movies were way better

thank you, this movie is so unrealistic in the real world these people would be worried about getting jobs to keep food on the table, not dance in a damn garage all day. no way the bookie dad is supporting the whole family with a small time bookie gig. I'm sure they are all collecting government checks since its the cool thing to do these days.

The direction was pretty fantastic as well.

Just saw it this weekend and I really liked it. I especially liked that it was the story of two incredibly damaged people trying to be a little less damaged. It's the love story I like -- no matter how much of a mess you are, there is a person out there for you. And instead of lapsing into a horrid co-dependency, they actually aspire to make each other better people. I found it really touching without being hokey.

I disagree entirely. First, she got insurance money, which the film points out but doesn't dwell on, because who cares? Secondly, the film also establishes DeNiro is doing well as a bookie, which is the whole reason he needs to open a restaurant -- to launder the money. Now, they cut this deleted scene, and I wish they had kept it because it cast the mother in a stronger light, but she bought the flowers and wine for her son to give as a present, and Cooper adds a line after blowing up at his parents, "And it kills me I have no money." It was a funny line reading and a sweet scene, but not essential to the plot, so it got cut. There's also a scene where he borrow money to go to the diner. We're not talking huge sums of money though; his parents are giving him free room and board while he figures out what to do with his life. Though I see you're hung up on it and needed that scene to exist.

It can be explained by a line of dialogue.

I liked it, very solid movie.

Spectacular? Probably not. I thought D.O. Russell did a great job not taking it too seriously - they could've gone into the deep end about the psychological profiles of both main characters, but in the end it was a love story, and that's ok.

I think most of the hype stemmed from Cooper's performance - which in the end I think was justified. He nailed the role - he is a native Philadelphian after all.
