LSU Baseball Weekend Recap (No Rankings, Just Numbers)

Posted on 5/5/13 at 11:21 am
#3 LSU (43-6, 19-5) vs. #19 Florida (25-23, 12-12)
LSU completed the three game sweep of Florida in Baton Rouge style dropping 18 runs on 19 hits Saturday for a must needed win. This sweep marks the 4th SEC series sweep of the season and 6th overall. They will be traveling to Aggie Land this week to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.
Last weekend LSU capped off a stale couple of weeks by dropping their first weekend series in almost a year to South Carolina. It wasn't a good time for LSU fans because the Tigers spent the entire weekend leaving runners on base, plenty of them. But not this weekend.
Let's look over the numbers from this weekend. (My national rankings will be released tomorrow when numbers become available to me)
Hitting (Min 5 AB)
Sean McMullen - 4-11, .364, RBI, 2 R, 2 2B
Mark Laird - 0-11, R, RBI
Alex Bregman - 6-12, .500, 3 RBI, 4 R, 2 2B, SB
Mason Katz - 4-11, .364, 2 RBI, R, SB
Raph Rhymes - 5-10, .500, RBI, 3 R, 2 2B
Christian Ibarra - 5-8, .625, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 2B
Ty Ross - 2-10, .200, 3 R
Jacoby Jones - 5-13, .385, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 3 R, 2B
Chris Chinea also added a 3 RBI Double on Sunday in his only at bat of the weekend.
Starting Pitching
Cody Glenn - 6.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 6 K, BB, 103 Pitches
Aaron Nola (W, 9-0) - 9 IP, CG, SH, 4 H, 3 K, BB, 108 Pitches
Ryan Eades (W, 8-1) - 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 6 K, 3 BB, 85 Pitches
Relief Pitching
Chris Cotton (S,10) - IP, 2 K
Team Hitting
Batting Average - .346
Hits - 36
Home Runs - 2
RBI - 25
Runs - 26
Walks - 12
Strikeouts - 9
Team Pitching
ERA - 1.75
Earned Runs Allowed - 7
Strikeouts - 20
Walks - 7
Other Notes:
Florida used 14 pitchers over the weekend while LSU only had to use 11. However, LSU used 5 pitchers over the final three innings of the Saturday game to get them some extra work. Five pitchers for LSU this weekend only pitched less than an inning.
Joey Bourgeois (3-1) got the win for the Thursday night game.
LOB - LSU 23, Florida 19
LSU only had 1 error on the weekend.
On Saturday's blowout, LSU scored 18 consecutive runs before allowing Florida to squeeze in 4 in the 9th.
Actual Attendance (Paid)
Thursday - 5,033 (10,217)
Friday - 6,951 (10,947)
Saturday - 7,733 (11,310)

"Sure, they set an attendance record earlier this season, but if you’re the best at something, you don’t just do it when it’s convenient. Paid attendance numbers are consistently higher than actual attendance in the Box." LINK

He's solid on defense but I think Stevenson may be given a couple more chances with Foster seeing some time. I hope Mainieri starts giving Foster a chance against righties. He doesn't have to be situational for lefties.

I think it was proven yesterday when CPM replaced Foster for Laird, for situational, and Laird went 0-3

What that guy doesn't understand that even our ACTUAL attendance is higher than the rest of the country.

I would rather see Moore against right handers than Foster. Stevenson/Laird in CF Mack Mullen in RF, Moore DH.

Paid attendance is always higher than actual attendance for every sport at every venue since the beginning if time.

That sounds like an argument you need to take up with Micah Bedard.
