So I have 2 for sure maybe 3 TV's in the house. Right now I have COX cable and internet. I've got the COX whole home package with HD DVR. So someone convince me that the ROKU is a better option financially. I tend to watch live sports, prime time tv stations, FX, and comedy central.

I would cut the bloated expensive cable package for myself if it weren't for my wife and her love for crappy reality tv shows on every station.

This is what keeps most posters here from cutting cable. You can get a digital antenna and get free channels like CBS, but you lose ESPN. Outside of sports on cable you can easily watch 95% of what you're watching now with an antenna, NetFlix and HuluPlus.

But you need a cable login to access ESPN3.

You have to have cable tv subscription? Every time i use it I just use it like a normal site, no log in.

WatchESPN says:

quote:

Live streams of all the WatchESPN Networks are available at no additional cost to fans who receive ESPN as part of their TV subscription through participating TV providers.

I just tried to access it from work where I have AT&T UVerse internet but no cable TV and it tried to make me log in.

So why don't you know how many TVs you have in your house?

Sports, Game of Thrones, and convenience is why I don't do it. Plus I have a 2 year old who likes certain shows that probably won't be on anything but tv or dvd (and torrents obviously).

I wonder if it would work if you just have cable Internet from a participating provider. Espn has those networks by the balls.

That's what I'm telling you my situation is. UVerse Internet, no TV, sign in required.

I switched to a Roku 2XS and a Mohu Leaf Antenna about 3 months ago. I actually get about 28 channels with the antenna. I used to think that i would really miss ESPN but its cool not having a damn cable bill.

Yeah, but espn3 is only the crap that doesn't make it onto the tv stations. WatchESPN is espn3 plus what is on TV. For that you need to have a cable tv subscription.

Why not just use the subscription of someone you know?

I don't know... I honestly think ESPN changed it a bit since so many people bitched about it. For the first couple of football games that were on TV last year, they didn't show the LSU games on ESPN3 at all. Later on they started showing the ones on EPSN. The only ones they didn't show were the ones on ESPNU I think (and the ones on CBS of course, but I have an antennae). I think I had a bit of trouble for the BCS bowl games though.

Now, I live out of state so none of the games were blacked out for me, so if you live in Louisiana you may have trouble getting some of those games.

You definitely won't be able to get NFL games with ESPN3 though. FOX doesn't really broadcast the Saints games here unless it's a big game so that kinda sucks. Shouldn't be a problem if you live in Louisiana and have an antennae though.
