re: Sources: LeBron to win 4th MVP

It's revisionists history

You're right. You LeBron lovers are forgetting his choking before last year. These last 2 years though, he's on a mission.
quote:

I'm not saying LBJ doesn't need the same, but all the Jordan lovers act like he dropped 40 a night, highlight dunked on every play and won every game he ever played in.

Uh yeah, Bosh and MVP Wade might be a little better than what Jordan had.
And Jordan averaged over 30 points a game for his career. So yeah, he was a more prolific scorer.
quote:

Jordan is the best for now, but I strongly believe that once James' career is over, we will compare the two and realize the James was the more complete player (and could potentially be the greatest of all time).

Agreed. LeBron is playing like a beast and if he keeps it up, then he could be considered GOAT.

But to have people already calling him that need to go downstairs and set the table, mommy is calling them.

The one I really feel for is Durant. Not since Jordan has there been a player I have liked as much and who is money, but sitting behind LBJ. I think Durant should have won MVP last year but that's imo.

It's hardly nostalgia. The 1990s was the best and most competitive era of basketball. Today's game pales in comparison. Almost every other sport is better -- sans boxing -- but the 1990s was the pinnacle -- thus far -- of the game of basketball.

What was so competitive when the Bulls won 6 out of 10 in the 90s? Are you saying the game was more enjoyable to watch, the athletes were better, or both?

Yes, the game was more enjoyable to watch. I think there was better overall shooting. Defense was head and shoulders above what it is now. You had some of the best big men to play the game at that time. Yes, the Bulls won a lot of games, but they were simply the best among the best.

Not to mention how much more whiney the players are now. Flagrant fouls are called all the time now it seems...

Jordan started winning titles in by far the most competitive era of the NBA. That's part of the reason why he is the GOAT. There were so many HoFers and near HoFers that didn't win a title while Jordan was playing. Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Payton, Shaq, Robinson, Miller, Mullin, Richmond, Rice, etc. Some of those guys did ultimately win a title, but not while Jordan was around in his prime.

The NBA now is in roughly in it's Bronze Age. The play now is slightly better than it was in the 70's but noticeably lower quality than it was in the 80's and 90's.

Well that's your opinion, so I won't argue with you. But...

Completely disagree. Defenses are far more advanced now.

Don't forget Ewing, Kemp and Wilkins. Hakeem won the 2 years Jordan left.

Wait, people still are hanging to thevbelief that defenses were so much better and intricate in the 80s and 90s?

How soon we forget.

I thought that you were going to dedicate your next TD name to me? What happened with that bro? My feelings are hurt

Yep, and the other thing that isn't really reflected in the stats is how often players stuck with a team for the majority or their entire careers. Robinson and Duncan with the Spurs. Pippen and Jordan with the Bulls. Olajuwon with the Rockets. Malone and Stockton with the Jazz. Wilkins with the Hawks. And the list goes on.

Teams stuck together, and the NBA seemed less mercenary back then, at least as far as the stars were concerned.

That made the games more enjoyable to watch for me.

They were better. The 80's had a much higher pace, but in the 90's it slowed down a bit because more teams were so physical (Knicks, Pistons, Spurs, etc.). You don't know shite about basketball if you think defense is better today - especially with all of the chicken shite zone crap that goes on.

Not the 80s. The 80s was a more free-flowing style of game, but 90s has a well-deserved reputation for rough and tenacious defense.

I agree with the last 2 sentences. Defense in the 90s is no where near what it is today. Enjoyable and shooting are debatable.

Is this real life? People actually believe this?
