Going Monday with my brother and son. Looking to clean up on sac a lait ,perch, chinquapin.Planning on bringing shiners, worms, and crickets to fish under a cork. Any suggestions as far as tactics,locations,ect.. I really want my son to have a good trip and catch plenty. We live in Metairie and mostly salt water fish. Thanks in advance.

We racked up on sacs last year about this same time of year. Launched at south landing and followed the bank north. Just used beetle spins, not live bait. Caught most just above the south campground area

Its a beautiful lake. Even if you dont catch much, your boy will still enjoy it.

Question: In the hundreds of times I've driven north on I-49, I always thought Chicot Lake was on the East Side of the interstate, next to a large rest area. Just looked on the map and it looks like I've been wrong...for my entire life.

If Chicot is on the west side of 49, then what is that large lake on the east side at the rest area north of Opelousas but south of Bunkie? Found it on the map, but its not labeled.

That is Dubuisson Lake. Once you exit off I 49, turn right instead of turning into the rest area. It has a very nice public concrete ramp. Good parking area. No fees are charged. No overnite allowed.

There is a bridge that comes out towards the middle of the lake. If the water is high, I wouldn't recommend running in this lake, since you won't be able to see it.

...I HAVE FISHED THE LAKE QUITE A BIT...FIRST OFF, IT HAS EXCELLENT SAC-A-LAIT WHEN ITS ON. THE LAUNCH IS VERY GOOD, BUT WHEN YOU GO BY ANY POINT WATCH YOUR DEPTHFINDER AND SWING OUT A BIT. I HAVE FISHED IT LIKE LARTO WITH THE RIGS AND SINGLE. THE LAKE IS DEEP IN AREAS (MIDDLE) 20-25 FEET, THE LAST TIME I FISHED I WAS IN 15 FT. OF WATER, WITH THE JIG SET AT 12 FEET. MY FIRST FISH WAS ABOUT 2 #s. THEY DO A LOT OF TROLLING AWAY FROM THE BANKS AND IN THE MIDDLE. THERE IS NO SHADE AND NOT A STUMP TO SPEAK OF. THERE ARE TREE TOPS(CHRISTMAS TREES) BUT6 YOU HAVE TO LOCATE THE WITH A DEPTHFINDER.
