I enjoy watching the steelers or LSU win "On the counter"

American football has nothing to do with European football. It is very rudimentary, functional and as close to static as any sport can get. Don´t get me wrong, this is not a derogatory comparison, I mean to say, it´s static, and ´soccer ´is dynamic, if we adhere to the strict defintions of dynamic and static.
Seriously, jumbo, ´tis a different animal, and methinks you´re a bit ´go with the flow ´, as long as the flow suits you (in this case). Were either to lose, you wouldn´t bitch about how they played, simply one certain play, or overall, your team sucked.
´Tis very different.

i for one think countering is quite entertaining. i seem to recall napoli was the darling of europe last year...
granted, i don't watch real a whole lot, but i'm not opposed to watching their pressing and quick counter-attacking style. its viscerally enjoyable to me, even if it is only so because of what i watch week in, week out (which is, if i may steal one of my old twitter jokes, as much penetration without finishing as a Sting sex tape)

As a main course, or sporadically?

i read a ton of articles about napoli last year. people loved them.

Well, there's a sizable difference in pressing and countering quickly like Napoli does and parking the bus. I should've clarified.
DARN YOU FOBUD
(And I don't recall that Twitter joke.)

last year was a bad year for Serie A, I guess they had to cling to something.
Seriously, yeah, they were dynamos, but in comparison to what? Other leagues? It´s not like they were Quijotes.

I was responding 100% to the post before me which had already brought up American Football...

My Tebow example was more about deciding not to win ugly than tactics. Defensive American football is different than what the Broncos did with Tebow.

You mentioned as an example an American Football team "winning ugly" Which is what LSU does. I enjoy that.
That's the most I can simplify my above posts.
ETA: to add on - I probably wouldn't feel that way nearly as much if I didn't also watch the Saints who are the complete opposite and fufill my need to watch a great offense but often leave me craving the greatness of a stellar defense.

here's my thought on the matter: there's a difference between bunkering and allowing for some possession but pressuring and countering off that. the later i respect and enjoy watching. particularly for a team like real which has such athletic and skilled wingers. now i can't really comment on whether i'd like it as a main course since i haven't experienced that from my club.
i do empathize with you though, dandy. if it aesthetically pisses you off to watch your team, i'm all for your jose hate. i despise muschamp because he brings such a horribly ugly brand of football to the table. I could care less how many games we won this year. i'm praying for a shitty year next year so he gets canned.

it was a frustration tweet during an arsenal match. within the last two months.

Okay, if you enjoy that, then that's fine. Not everyone does. (See FOBUD's post above this one about COACH BOOOOOOM.)
Fans of clubs like Madrid (which is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT SPORT Dandy) don't like playing counter first.
And, side note like FOBUD also said, I think there's a difference between pressing and countering and parking the bus. I don't like parking the bus, which I don't think Real does. But I think they're too talented in attack to use countering as a go-to gameplan.

Must've glossed over that one. That's a really good one-liner.

Haven't seen this much penetration without finishing since I spied on Sting's sex session that one time.
leauxg's favorited....because it was hilarious. way to miss out.

Horrible example with Tebow. Tebow is not a world class quarterback. Your Tebow example would have been appropriate if Jonathan Bornstein led Chelsea to a UCL title off of dumb luck.
Sport at its purest form is an athletic contest between sides. The goal is to win. It is simple as that. Yes, everyone wants their favorite team and/or athlete to have an aesthetically pleasing style of play, but that is a secondary goal. The objective needs to be maximize your chance of victory, not put on a show for a theater-going type audience.
The best example that is personally relevant to me is the Chicago Cubs. As a Cubs fan, I love the atmosphere of Wrigley and the game day experience is unmatched IMO. However, I would trade away Wrigley for a World Series title any day of the week.
If you asked fans, "Would you rather your favorite team win ______ (either a league title or UCL, depending on the quality of club) or have a respectable season with an attractive style of play?" If you answer the latter, then you are a fricking moron. Results matter. The bottom line matters.
One of the greatest moments for every fan is when they experience the sheer, unadulterated joy of winning a title. That is a feeling that cannot be equally by an attractive style of play, tactical acuity, or exciting matches.
