1. Nitrogen removal from Mississippi river diversions into LA marshes
2. Using marshes to remove nutrients in ag runoff
3. creating marshes from unused rice fields to provide duck habitat

Havent't they been studing the release of effluents from sewage plant in New Orleans area? Either way, a lot more info on that topic I would think. I N Rabalais may have something published on number 1. I'd email Larry Reynolds on number 3 if you want to go that route.

Go with #2.

easier to research and in the conclusion use as a model for aplication to #3.

1 and 2 seem pretty related. I'd go with 1, consider 2 as a benefit. I'd be interested to see the effects on the algal bloom of passing the water through brackish marsh before dumping directly into the gulf.

Are these your only choices or are you looking for suggestions?

i've narrowed it down to those 3

come from an agricultural and hunting background so these are personal to me.

i think i'm going to have to go with 2. lots of data to discuss

Look up Dr. John Day, LSU Department of Coastal Science.

Utilizing wetlands to treat and filter waste water systems instead of conventional waste water treatment plants.

Along the lines of 2 but can be used on a much broader scale/impact.

Also the side effects of the treatment can be used to restore wetland loss.

I have a 22 page paper on the effects of freshwater diversions on the Pontchatrain Basin circa '95. I'll sell it to you cheap, you'll need an overhead projector and a computer that can take those 5" floppy disks.

Yeah, I'd love to do more work on it. I'm an engineer, but mechanical and my background is more thermal than anything, but I just love working on the coast, hence volunteering for restorations. It would be nice to stay involved and not depend on random non-profit events.
