All good choices. The one you chose would be a Good one. You could also discuss hypoxia in the Gulf and even broaden it to include wetland assimilation for industrial uses as well. Good thing about that topic is that it is related to many others so you can take it just about anywhere. Not sure about the paper/presentation requirements but happy to review a proposed outline and offer some thoughts if needed. should have no trouble meeting the length/number of reference requirements.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I just saw something on FB about a meeting they had in Chalmette on Monday. Ricks, Lane, et al brought in an expert on LA's coast from Miss State with a degree in meteorology.

I would think #1 would be the easiest and would have the most information.

Lots of good info on #2 with sugarcane plant waste streams.

I did a senior design project on it with Dr Adrianne at LSU. In fact you can probably find enough reference papers to make it fairly easy to do.

They were talking about this in fox the other night, all I could do is shake my head.

re: Help me choose a topic regarding marshes for a presentation
They've recruited:

1 "scientist" from an unrelated field to go up against literally the worldwide scientific community's opinion, not to mention the laws of hydrodynamics. Oh did I mention this scientist has nothing more than a power point presentation as his background in the field? A guy with No published papers on the topic vs thousands of published works going against him.

2 parish presidents from 2 of the historically most corrupt parishes, one of whom is under current federal investigation and also seconded the unanimous motion of the CPRA board to approve the master plan. Neither has the slightest scientific background.

1 parish coastal zone manager (PJ Hahn), who lives in Kenner and who's qualifications in the coastal realm/work experience include being a policeman and boxing promoter. (Also no scientific background to speak of).

1 owner of the a website that is amazingly more juvenile than the worst boards of reddit or 4chan (Also no scientific background to speak of).

Multiple captains who apparently just got the Internet since they missed the hundreds of community outreach events held on the master plan over s period of years and who can't show you a tax return from the last 3 decades +. These captains also believe themselves to be dredging experts, geology experts, hydrology experts, and biologists who all reject the laws of physics and the laws of money/cost of goods and services. (...you guessed it...no scientific background to speak of).

All star crew.

PS what happened to "Deege"

1. Nitrogen removal from Mississippi river diversions into LA marshes 2. Using marshes to remove nutrients in ag runoff 3. creating marshes from unused rice fields to provide duck habitat

As a fellow duck hunter and an LSU EVEG grad, i'd have a hard time passing on 3, though there really isn't much science to it since a rice field in itself is prime "duck habitat".

With regard to #2, there are a few areas in south La that are already using marshes as kind of a tertiary treatment system. One example that got a lot of coverage a few years back was the one south of Ponchatoula, now drains through the Manchac Swamp area, including those WMA's. As for #2.....oh geez. You're probably OK evaluating the nutrient uptake but don't go anywhere near the referenced "rodnreel" discussing sediments.

I did my senior design on metals accumulation in LSU lake fish....required us to go fishing, not a bad deal. Unfortunately, did not have access to the shock boat. good luck and PM me if I might be of help.
