yea right the Cubs would move from Wrigley over a f-ing billboard.

Ricketts is so full of shite.

They aren't losing money, the Cubs aren't a money pit, they don't need it to compete.

Too bad, so sad if their family bought the team and didn't know about the deal with the rooftop owners.

If the Cubs left Wrigly they might as well move the team out of Illinois
Baseball without Wrigley would suck

On April 15, Ricketts said if his plan is approved, it will bring the first World Series title to the north side of Chicago since 1908.

i love this quote in the ESPN article i know it is just a bunch of politics but how could he possibly know this?

I'm hoping the signs never get approved. Would be a great shitstorm to watch if they then leave not just Wrigley but Chicago. I'm sure Vegas, Salt Lake, Buffalo, Nashville, or OKC would love to have a baseball team.

"Move" simply means out of Wrigleyville, right? Not like to Juneau, Alaska or anything. Secondly, if only for the skyline and ivy, what else does Wrigley offer? From my friends in Chicago, it's a dump that's outdated, facility-wise.

New signs!? Burn Ricketts alive! People are so stupid.

its not simply putting up the signs that is an issue.

its the fact that he is claiming they need the revenue from them to compete so he can weasel out of a deal the team signed with the bars that have rooftop views of the stadium.

if he was doing this once that contract was up, there would be FAR less people ripping hm.

I think the over the top jumbo tron is outdated already. Put one in that works but then advsnce Wrigley with new tech like msg. Why spend so much to say you want to get into todays world with a old idea?

I dont mind renovations but just seems over the top

Being a lifelong Cubs fan, I love Wrigley and have been several times, but having gone recently, it is obviously outdated. Still the best park in baseball though

As a Cubs fan. I love it, but I could see how visitors or non-fans may view it. Went to the old Yankee stadium in 2003 with my Dad (huge yankees fan) he gushed over it, I saw it for what it was...a cramped, old dump. Very historical dump, but still a dump.

Assuming the Cubs are in Wrigley for the long haul, it needs upgrades. Part of upgrading means getting with the times. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. If the owner feels a jumbo screen is needed, which some kind of replay board at Wrigley would be a great idea (I know there is a widescreen panel in RF now, not sure if they do replays) for the people that actually visit the park.

That's all well and good, and I realize it's easier said than done.

Another screen is fine. Wrigley has tvs throughout hanging to see replays anyway. I'm not opposing even a big screen in left.

But the idea of a massive screen is outdated. We are not leading. .we are still following a old idea. For once the cubs can lead and still have beauty of Wrigley., but ricketts just wants to throw a huge out of place screen in left

Totally agree it needs to be updated. There is a way to update and modernize your ballpark without destroying the classic elements that make it such a great place. Hopefully they can make that happen.

I think the idea here that fans need to realize is "revenue to compete". I'm sure Ricketts isn't some curmudgeonous dickweed that just wants to ruin everyone's view or bruise the park's mystique.

On the same token, it is his building. He should be able to do whatever he wants. And without his product, the Cubs, the rooftops don't have shite.

They should leave.

I believe with all my heart that Wrigley Field has been one of the main reasons the Cubbies haven't won a championship in over 100 years.

Out of place in left you say? You could get a shiny new HD video board or you could have this. Count your blessings.

Don't sign a New contract with rooftops if you planned on a money grab. Ricketts wants his thumb print so bad on Wrigley. Just a terrible owner.

Ricketts is trying to model this after what the Red Sox have done. Theo is giving his input, no doubt. Fenway has many of the things that Ricketts is trying to put in Wrigley (Sheffield Ave will likely become like Yawkey Way in the near future), except rooftops with a view and a contract. Ricketts needs to either honor that contract or find some kind of way to settle with them and move on.

I don't really see how he's a terrible owner though. He's making the right moves to build a long term winner. The threat to move out of Wrigley has got to have most of the people in Chicago laughing at him though. I don't see anyway that anyone is buying that at all. If I was one of the rooftop owners, I'd definitely call his bluff on that.

He hasn't been terrible. Just crying for money and saying a jumbo tron will bring US a world series just annoys me. Its his toy. Do what he wants

The second part of your post is accurate IMO. I don't really think much of Wrigley Field. The neighborhood that surrounds the park is both nice and interesting but the ballpark itself looks 1000x better on television than it does in person.
