There's a lot of draft threads, but thought this deserved to be mentioned and highlighted since the chapter has now closed on this group. I know Miami had a really impressive backfield at one point, but did it top LSU in 2010?

Safety:
Eric Reid - 1st round (19th overall)
Brandon Taylor - 3rd round (73rd overall)

Cornerback:
Patrick Peterson - 1st round (5th overall)
Morris Claiborne - 1st round (6th overall)
Tyrann Mathieu - 3rd round (69th overall)
Ron Brooks - 4th round (124th overall)
Tharold Simon - 5th round (138th overall)

And I actually think their draft positions understate how talented that unit was because character flaws cost both Mathieu and Simon a couple rounds. I'll never forget that UNC game watching a young honey badger flying around (9 tackles that game, a sack and a forced fumble) and being in awe of how talented those young dudes were. I hope it happens again, but I don't know if LSU will ever have that much talent in a DB group at the same time.

Remember how many DBs played in the opener against UNC in Atlanta? Good times, good times.

my memories of the DBs that game are really different. what'd we give up, 400 yds? Tyrann impressed, but damn everyone else seemed to be getting torched.

Chavis put in mass substitutions in the 2nd half when LSU got up big, and the UNC QB feasted on the newbies for a while, but it was still pretty interesting to see all those freshmen get playing time.

I had no fricking idea who Tharold Simon was before I saw him in the 4th quarter.

What about Loston next year?
Depending on the type of year he has he could go in the top half of the draft.

You're right - the chapter hasn't closed completely I guess. Hopefully we can add him to the list next year, need another safety in there to bolster it

Man that is a dirty secondary. I would give Miami 2001 a slight nod, but because those guys are on the back end of their NFL careers, it will be interesting to see how these guys stack up.

Can anyone educate me a little more about 2001 Miami? I know SFP said Rumph, Reed, and Buchanan were all first rounders - who were their other guys? What separates 2010 LSU in my mind from other groups was the depth (everyone in that backfield got drafted) and the top end talent with Peterson and Claiborne being drafted as the top DBs in their respective draft years.
