22 foot Skeeter center console tray replacement (updated with pics)

I have a 22 foot 2002 Skeeter bay boat. The console tray is cracked in several places. Gave dealer the hull Id # and year model and they ordered the replacement part. Does not fit - about a half inch too narrow across and about an inch too deep front to back. Dealer swears it is the right part. Anyone have experience with this or suggestions? May be able to fit it across with force but don't like the overhang look. The new ones are designed where the lip sits on the consols as opposed to overlap

Did you try turning it around backwards?

Tried again and no way to get it to fit and not have overhang. Just looking to see if anyone else has encountered this or suggestions. Will just re-mount existing one for now and add a screw near the cracked areas.

It looks like it is angled on the sides like a trapezoid. Are you sure it was all of the way back?
I am taking it that you haven't done any fiberglass work before. Maybe try adding/removing the supports in the console
Fixing the old one would be a very good beginner's fiberglass job. It isn't hard at all. basically just add temporary supports for the new glass, scuff up the old stuff, add the glass, sand, and paint

have not thought about that at all. may give that a try. I did try to fit it every way possible because of the look. it looks to be designed for the newer boats as far as the way it is mounted. figure the boat is at the age where I need to start looking into "making it work" as you suggested. great boat though - no other issues since 2002.

Yeah, patching that little amount of glass wouldn't be hard especially since the curves on the sides aren't complicated. Fill up every hole front to back, roll out the bubbles, and you are set
Watch youtube videos to get the jist of it. It's how I learned to weld

Wanted to provide an update - brought old and new part back to dealer lot show the difference. Got the shrug like "I don't know what to tell you" and returned the part. Put the old one on this weekend and started researching how to fiberglass repair. Decided to email Skeeter customer service just to explain and see what advice they had. Got an email from a rep asking for the pics - sent pics with detailed explanation and on Monday got an email asking for my shipping address - they are shipping me the correct part at no charge. Unbelievable customer service - I was not looking for anything free just advice. Will post pics once replaced. Cheers to Skeeter!

Pretty sweet. Screw around with glassing that old one just to expand your knowledge

Why not just get a custom piece made for that spot? Would probably cost less than that piece.

Stupid question from an old auto-parts guy: Are you sure it's a 2002 boat? Could it be a late 2001? If nothing else, have the parts guy go ahead a year or two and back a year or two and see if the part number remains the same.

Have you looked for aftermarket trays? I'm sure they make something that you'll enjoy/get more use out of than what you already have

Oops. Just re-read that fact. Missed it the first time. Oh, well..there goes that idea.

Did not look at after market options. Since Skeeter is sending me the correct part (hopefully) and they offered it at no charge I am going to see what comes in and then if still does not work i will look at fixing myself or after market.

Quick hijack.
Pastor Brady just stopped by to see me for a minute and prayed a very meaningful prayer that I really needed today.

hijack response:
Thats awesome. We were Blessed to get Brady at FUMC. When you are feeling that you need it just think of all of the prayers being said specifically for you and your family- pretty sweet huh? Keep pressing brother - praying that each day finds you better - in one way or the other.
