is it real? Will high-paying, competitive jobs be plentiful in a few years?
Sure, some have heard this and that regarding Natural Gas companies/Big Oil making huge investments in the area, but what's everyone else hearing/reading about what LC may or may not be experiencing in the near/long-term future?
Might have to pack my bags and move to LC to work!!

My company is doing a ton of FEED work for major projects in that area right now. So I think in 5 years or so those projects will be rolling along.

$40 billion plus in investments. They do not have near enough workers in the area to fill the jobs that are coming.

there is already a wage war going on in SE LA for all crafts in industrial construction. this is only going to make things worse. the workers will benefit greatly due to this. great for the city as well. you'll have an influx of of (minimum) several thousand people people making 100K+. i see housing being the biggest issue. they will need a lot more travel trailer parks and apartments.

It's awesome. Love hearing about all of the good stuff like this happening in the state.
South Texas has alot of industrial expansion happening now too, which is only going to make this labor shortage much worse.

One major hurricane hitting the area and they will be rethinking their plans.

Natural disasters are a risk anywhere. I am quite sure that was already covered in a risk assessment study before selecting the sites.

Egg,
The mayor did a briefing on this not too long ago. The area is expecting a minimum of 40 billion dollars in new projects to begin. Frankly, I expect that number to be higher. These projects will also bring in 30,000-40,000 temporary construction jobs to the area. As Lake Charles' population is just over 70,000, the infrastructure will be completely stressed. There isn't nearly enough housing, restaurants, etc, to handle this. It is a big concern how the planning and zoning will be handled for all the temporary housing that will be built. Subsequently, anyone who knows Lake Charles and the city council knows nothing is ever made simple and smooth. SFP and some of the other LC folk have had conversations numerous times on td about the lack of growth mainly because a few, albeit extremely wealthy, locals don't want the change. These projects will bring a ton of high paying, new jobs to the area but will bring them at a rate that will press the LC area and it's officials to get their shite together fast. If done properly, LC is looking to explode but I have heard this said numerous times in the past with little result. However, these projects might just force the explosion many of us have hoped for....Hopefully, we're actually ready for it.
