50 points under the old system was no big deal. But with this points system, its HUGE. Over a race difference. Dropped him from 8th to 14th

A little over 2 grams lighter

And it was only one of the rods, one next to it was 4 grams heavier than the minimum

I love it, mainly because I dont like Kenseth.

I feel a little bad because it had no effect on performance, but too bad.

One thing I dont like is that the penalties have gotten quite severe on any modifications to the new cars. I dont like Lagano or Brad K, but their penalties were harsh. NASCAR is run more and more like a dictatorship, which hurts the sport. The guys have to be so PC and cars have to match exact specs so closely that there is no room for error.

That's because it is. If you don't like to play by league rules you don't have to participate.

Do they have to completely break down the engines piece by piece after every race for inspections? I realize the crew probably does that as a regular part of their duties to keep the car in tip top shape, but it seems like it would be alot of crap to go through to weigh a piston rod.

I believe the engine for every winning car and the engine of another random non-winning car is taken by NASCAR and dissected piece by piece after every race.

Its like the NASCAR piss test.

I agree, in that it takes the ingenuity out of it. Can you imagine the point penalties and fines that Junior Johnson's teams would have run up in the 70s/80s or how many races Smokey Eunick would have been suspended for in the 60s under these rules.

However, the new rules are that engines have to meet exact specs and any other major parts (rear end housings, etc.else) have to be presented to NASCAR for testing/approval at the R&D center in Charlotte before it can be run on the track.

Tearing down the race winning engine after every race is new, but back in the day a fellow drive could file a protest and NASCAR would tear the winner's engine down in the garage at the track after the race.

OK, that sounds doable. I was thinking that it would be a lot of man power to take every engine apart and inspect it.
