After google's help, Redbreasted sunfish would be my guess.

Spotted Sunfish, but we are not supposed to have them. Looks to be an Eastern fishie.

I've caught those at Toledo. Big footprint, but they have no shoulders. This fish was thick. And, the ear is all wrong.

The ear turned me off too, but it was the closest I could come up with. Hybrid may be the answer.

Sunfish hybrid for sure. The pond at my house is full of them.
