This isn't about good or bad food. Get off your soap box.

This thread wasn't meant to be a commentary on the food that Taco Bell serves or the people that work there. My point was I think it's nice that something as simple as a taco lead to 15,000 people being gainfully employed. Jeez, y'all.

I'm on a soapbox because more jobs have been created?

You say it's only a win for Taco Bell? People are provided jobs that they otherwise could probably not land. It's not about quality of food, or devaluing the culinary arts (wtf). It's much bigger than that. It's people's livelihood.

It's selfish to say what you are saying.

can't believe Yum Brands closed at 66 today. it was almost 10 points higher back in December? when was the Locos Taco released? with reportage of such high growth you'd think Yum would be higher. I might pull the trigger on it if it drops to 60.

No, it really isn't when you understand my point.

People will spend money on what is important to them. If food is more important than entertainment for example, more will go toward food than entertainment, and jobs are created and maintained by that flow of money. We may not create 15k minimum wage jobs people cant pay their bills off of, but maybe we create 7.5k quality jobs where the art of cooking is rewarded as is our mouths as consumers.

It all boils down to our priorities, and that's one reason why the rich get richer in foodie areas, and the poor remain poor and are left scratching their heads why their food options stink.

Believe me... If food in BR for example was the LSU Tigers, we would never settle for Taco Bell.

You think normal restaurants pay a livable wage to the average kitchen worker? $7.25/hr is what a taco bell worker is going to make. Your average kitchen worker probably makes $8 or $9/hr

So you are saying they can't co-exist?

Jobs are jobs. 15k a year is better than nothing. Not everyone is fortunate to be able to go to LSU and get a degree. Or even graduate high school.

The food quality should be irrelevant.

FYI, that isn't true. It depends upon where you live. Again.. The rich get richer, and the talent pool is deep so pulling off the kind of food that is next level is easier than somewhere where the talent pool sucks because a low value is attributed to the positions, and trade even. For some places, it's just the help, and in other areas, it warrants higher respect. There are very good reasons for that being the way it is.

I don't know what planet you're from, but here on earth, making a taco shell that tastes like Doritos is a god damned culinary masterpiece.

It's a reflection of that society, and what they value.

No, there isn't much difference, and the food reflects it.

Not everyone cares about food as much as you bro.. I am not willing to, nor able to, pay ridiculous amounts of money for expensive places very often.

I'm pretty sure you just like arguing.

What I'm saying is pretty good common sense. Your society will reflect your values and priorities. If its TVs, then you will spare no expense in having the best TVs money can buy. If its food, then your food will reflect that as well. We make that so. It doesn't befall us.

I don't agree with that 100%. Even people who want a super nice TV are going to shop for a bargain, especially if limited on funds. You seem to assume people are fully capable of spending lots of money on things like fancy food or super nice TVs without considering the price options of other TVs.

I work with the rental industry, and Yes, they can and do spend on their priorities. People will spend 150 to 200 dollars a month on cable and Internet, but bitch, whine, and belly ache when a sandwich is 2 bucks more than one down the street, yet better.

Id say most people don't really care as much for food as they say they do, and some don't even think about it. It's America, or what we've become. Quantity trumps quality, as does value over quality. It keeps the ball in motion.

Most would rather a whole lot of average to subpar food they get for a deal than a little less but really amazing food for a few bucks more. I have to believe that goes a long way in explaining our ever expanding waste sizes as well.

The pseudo-sophisticates of the board can't help but jump at any opportunity to proclaim to everyone here their pseudo-sophistication. It's okay.
