Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Unless Brits are somehow pseudo-Americans.

The Battle of Algiers. The frickers who keep trying to get us into neocolonial wars should be forced to watch it over and over.

Pan's Labyrinth without question. An absolute masterpiece. A film where the original language really serves the story. Really can't beat it.

Other honorable mentions:
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Seven Samurai

This is pretty much my list with Hero thrown in there.

Probably my second favorite Miyazaki film behind Mononoke. When Howl says "Your hair looks like moonlight" or something along those lines it always bugs the shite out of me though.

I'm a huge fan of Italian film. My favorite is probably C'eravamo Tanto Amati ("We All Loved Each Other So Much").

If any of you are a fan of Italian history and symbolism the movie is absolutely brilliant.

Best foreign film I saw last year was Rust and Bone.

All time off top of my head: Amores Perros, Biutiful, Y tu Mama Tambien, Oldboy

Great 3. I'm a big fan of Hero and City of God..

I like a lot of the others in here like Seven Samurai and Seventh Seal. Ran was awesome as well. Amelie, Trainspotting, Y Tu Mama, Oldboy, Pan's, etc are all great choices as well.
