Resting keeps you fresher during games, which generally leads to better overall play. Maybe he takes a few less defensive plays off instead of using them to pace himself. Plus now he misses the last 2 games of the season. Henry Abbot article about how heavy minutes can be counter productive.

I get that but they have been pretty much been in a lose and go home situation the last few weeks, especially the last few games, and Kobe had been carrying the team on his back. I don't care what Henry Abbot says....this team needed Kobe on the floor or they had zero shot at the playoffs. It was a freak injury and it sucks but I am probably the biggest Kobe fan on here, at least tied for biggest, and I don't blame anyone for this,

Is it? When you play through injuries, especially leg injuries it makes other parts overcompensate. Derrick Rose's knee injury was directly related to this (at least people around the team seem to believe it was). Is it unfathomable to think Kobe's was too? He had already been hurt both legs in the game before the Achilles popped.

Even if that was the case the Lakers needed him out there if they were gonna make the playoffs this year. Kobe is old and knows he only has maybe 2 years left so even knowing all of the risks there is no way he would have wanted to sit knowing what was at stake,

For another NO ONE knows if playing a lot of minutes had ANYTHING to do with the injury. Dan Marino ruptured his Achilles while back peddling for a pass. Two of my buddies tore theirs while playing softball. Unfortunately, that's all we'll hear about from the talking heads over the next week.

It's not just the massive minutes Kobe was playing during this stretch and this injury. It's not even the fact that Kobe went down twice tonight with an injury to both knees before the Achilles tear. It is D'Antoni's history of using players until their bodies break down: Amare and Lin.

Laker injuries this year: Pau Gasoline, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jamison, World Peace, Jordan Hill, Jodie Meeks, Earl Clark and now Kobe. I know injuries happen in sports but that an awful lot of injuries for one basketball team.

D'Antoni's style of play does fit a roster with the age of the lLakers. He also refused to use a deeper rotation when the have back to back games.

I 100% agree with your first point but the problem with your second is they are not a deep team and they were fighting for the 8th spot.

They were fighting for the 8th spot when Kobe sprained his ankle and they had to play more bench players. Not picking on you, just a question in general, why have them on the team in the first place if they aren't good enough to spell your stars for a few minutes each night? Also, why does every bench player that the Laker's release or trade end up being stars on other teams? Hell, almost half of the clippers is made up of former Lakers.

You have to have bench players but with salary cap limitations they just couldn't afford good ones this year. As far as the Clippers go they do have a lot of Lakers leftovers but again the Lakers have payroll issues and can't afford to pay guys like Lamar Odom over 8 mil a year to score 4ppg.

wow just wow i take it this is an LBJ#6 fan boy

If you think the vast majority of LeBron fans are happy Kobe is hurt, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. Also, why are you LeBronsessed? None of his fan boys even brought him into this discussion. Maybe that guy is happy purely because he's a shitty person?

I understand plenty of people have their reasons to hate on Kobe. But I am kinda surprised how some of you guys don't even respect him for what he is, the most competitive mother fricker in the NBA. Lets celebrate the season ending injury of a guy who has been literally attempting to will his team into the playoffs for the past month. I guess some of you guys never played sports competitively.

Like Bill Simmons said, the NBA just got less interesting, who wasn't looking forward to watching Kobe try to beat the Thunder in a 7 game series by himself?

Hopefully this isn't the last time we ever see Kobe on the court, without a doubt one of the greatest players of our generation.

I'm not a big Kobe fan at all but good lord. When you completely tear your Achilles it rolls up in your leg. It's arguably one of the most painful tears/injuries you can have. Definitely have some respect here for that.
