Won't happen. His ego is too big to play second fiddle to anyone.

BTW, How much of a badass is Kobe for nailing both those free throws with a torn Achilles

If it is torn, wouldn't it be in their best interest to amnesty Kobe? They can still resign him after his amnesty contract runs out, but if he's gonna miss all of next season they can't commit all of that cap space to a guy who won't be playing.

Not the threes, the two free throws

Hit the free throws, then walks off the court on his own. Unreal.

That's actually pretty genius. Would depend on if Kobe is okay missing an entire season though.

Once you amnesty a player, you can't resign them

He'll play next season. There are two types of surgery:
Both open and percutaneous surgeries are successful. More than 80 out of 100 people who have surgery for an Achilles tendon rupture are able to return to all the activities they did before the injury, including returning to sports.
Your total recovery time will probably be as long as 6 months.

I believe the rule is during their contract. Next year is the last year of the contract. So once it's up, he'd be able to resign. Though I'd have to call Larry Coon for confirmation.

interesting.

Lakers get cap space, Kobe still gets paid. Kobe could still resign with the team that amnestied him for the next season?

Once you amnesty a player, he is basically put on waivers and teams with cap space can bid on him. The highest bidder wins

Okay? Not sure what your point is though. His contract runs out after next season, regardless of who may possibly bid and win it.

Much respect to Kobe Bryant. Goes out like Ned Stark, an honorable warrior.

If I were Blake Griffin or Chris Paul, I'd be fairly worried about my health. LA teams have been getting hammered with crippling injuries this week with Jared Weaver, Zack Grienke, and now Kobe suffering serious injuries. Crazy bad luck.

He isn't going out, Dominique Wilkens tore his Achilles in his mid-30s and made all-star games after that and Kobe is MUCH better.

They amnesty him after this season. Another team is going to claim him for a reduced rate, even if its for only a partial season. Then he would be a free agent after that. So it is possible that Kobe could resign in 2014, but it would be after playing for another team.
