Notice of Proposed Tax Due

Received one in the mail today. Long story short, I claimed the Citizens Insurance Credit for the 2009 Tax Year in 2011. Filed the paperwork and provided tax declaration page documentation for roughly a $50 credit. They issued a refund card for $450. I didn't report the states mistake. I also have not spent all money issued to me. Clearly I'm still entitled the $50 credit.
Now they are seeking the all money back (with interest from 2009) within 30 days. Should I appeal or simply pay it?

I'm no tax attorney but I'm gonna bet you lose.

You will lose. What's the interest and penalty on that?

You would prevail with respect to the amount of credit you were actually eligible for. However, the cost to resolve the matter, in terms of time and money, probably exceeds the value of the credit. The Louisiana Department of Revenue is notoriously slow in matters such as yours.
