I was reading an article about the best assistant coach hirings under Les. In the comments under the article, Jim Kleinpeter said:
quote:

Chavis is also responsible for bringing in Haley, too. Having autonomy was the key for getting him and he likes Miles.
What was the connection with Chief and Brick before they came to LSU? I had no idea there was a connection.

Hail to the chief.

I was under the impression that the only former police officer we had coach our defensive line was Karl Dunbar.

ETA: And the connection with Chavis and Haley goes back to Alabama A&M or Alabama St or something way back in the day.

I don't think Lane has even gotten a gig worth a shite since being dismissed. I just googled him and he's apparently at Bethune Cookman now. Oh Earl, those naps during film sessions sure proved to be costly

Chief coached Haley at alabama a&m back in the day,and also saw how Haley coached d-line at Miss St. while chief was at tenn.

article on Chavis and Brick's relationship going back to Alabama A&M (also some mention of Ron Cooper, who was once AAMU's head coach).

can't find it, but Chief supposedly told Les that Brick was the best DL coach he knew of and asked for him specifically. of course we know Orgeron was in the mix, and there was talk that Brick may not have been back with the Bears and on the market anyway.

In hindsight Ed Orgeron wasn't the best man for the job.

You are completely missing the point.

I'm saying that if you remove Chavis,Haley & Wilson from this staff things would be a lot different at LSU in present day. I think some of you have forgotten how vanilla and inconsistent the offense was in the '10 campaign. We depended on the defense much of that year to get W's.

really? if you removed george washington, thomas jefferson and benjiman franklin the usa would be a lot different today. playing what if is only relavent by changing variables affecting the future, not the past.
