I thought AC was awesome with side missions. Like the collectables, figuring out the Riddlers trophy things, solving the riddles.

I think the story should go this way.
Batman shows back in the city and is making the cops look bad for doing their job. Cops go behind Gordon's back to hire a team of assassins to take out Batman. At the same time batman faces his big time villains.
Ends with Gordon uncovering that the mayor and police captain hired the assassins. Mayor and captain are removed from power and Gordon takes over.
