FINA Bans Lance Armstrong from Swimming

The piling-on of Armstrong has really gone overboard. Not only has he been banned from the sport that he competed in professionally, he's being banned from competing in other sports for recreational purposes. Since the UCI and the USCF banned him from cycling, the IAAF and USATF have banned him from road races (eg. 5K's, 10K's, marathons, etc.) and his results from previous races have been purged from the books. Also, the ITU has banned him from triathlons. Now the folks who run swimming are jumping in on the fun.

Don't folks in Switzerland have better things to do with their time than worry about some small amateur swim meet in Texas?

Lausanne (SUI), April 4, 2013 – Following reports on the media referring the participation of Mr. Lance Armstrong in the Masters South Central Zone Swimming Championships in Texas (USA), FINA would like to clarify that:
1. This national competition is under the jurisdiction of the US Masters Swimming;
2. FINA Rule DC 15.1 states:
“Subject to the right to appeal provided in DC 13, the Testing, therapeutic use exemptions and hearing results or other final adjudications of any Signatory to the Code which are consistent with the Code and are within the Signatory’s authority, shall be recognised and respected by FINA and its Member Federations.(...)”
Therefore, FINA wrote a letter to the US Masters Swimming (with copy to US Aquatic Sports and USA Swimming) requesting not to accept the entry of Mr. Lance Armstrong in the above mentioned competition.

Ouch.
Don't ever cheat in sports or you won't even be allowed to exercise ever again.

it's pathetic
are all of the other cyclists who doped also banned from triathlons and swim meets?
this is herd mentality at it's best

Of course not, this policy only applies to Lance. And remember that Marion Jones was allowed to play in the WNBA after she was banned from track, and Justin Gatlin was allowed to try out for the Philadelphia Eagles while he was suspended from track. What's amazing is that the IOC and the UCI are violating their own rules regarding statute of limitations. The reason given for why none of the East German athletes had any their Olympic medals taken away is because when the Stasi foles were uncovered, it was already beyond the 8-year statute of limitations. However, only Lance's 2005 Tour de France win was within the statute of limitations of the USADA Report, but not only did the IOC take away his bronze medal from the 2000 Olympics, but it allowed the gold and silver medalists to keep their medal despite the fact that both of them were subsequently convicted of doping. Even more amazing is the fact that the gold medalist was a U.S. Postal teammate of Lance at the time, and who was revealed to have been on precisely the same doping regimen that Lance was on. The reason cited for them keeping their medals was the statute of limitations.
Furthermore, the three men who won the Tour before Lance began winning in 1999, have either admitted to or been convicted of doping but none of them have been stripped of their Tour wins due to statue of limitations, while Lance's entire career has been wiped off the books going back to 1993.
