Does anyone else think it's a bit of a reach to take a cornerback that high?

I think needs will dictate top half of draft more so than other years.

Depends on the corner. If he's going to be like top 1-2 at the position, I don't think it's a reach, especially with the way NFL teams throw now. In this case it's a reach though. Guy is good, but no that damn good.

Corners are as important as they have ever been in the NFL. You need more of them than ever as well.

It is a reach, but it's becoming one of the most important positions.

Also, this seems like a relatively weak draft. The lack of top 10 (or even first round) worthy QBs this year will bump some positions higher than you would normally see.

Also, McShay doesn't really know what is going to happen.

depends on if you consider him another Charles Woodson and Champ Bailey. The drop off between All Pro CBs and the rest of the NFL CBs is pretty large.

funny part about McShay and him calling himself a draft analyst.........is he gets all of his information from other scouts, like the other day when he said read his scouting report about Geno Smith after talking with "10 scouts"

That's something I don't understand...how do you call yourself a draft analyst when you don't even come up with your own stuff.

That's why I love Mayock and now Daniel Jeremiah (former scout). Mayock's old school and watches a ton of tape and comes up with his own rankings based on what he sees

Cornerback is arguably the toughest position in football. Corners can have a decent career in terms of longevity, so you can possibly get your moneys worth. That being said, I don't think he is that good to be worth of a top 3 pick.

I'd rather the guy that tells me what they think WILL happen based on conversations within the nfl community and not what they think should happen based upon their own time and study jerking off on tape after tape locked in a basement with no communication to the real world.

Well if the idea is to accurately predict the draft, talking to the scouts that help determine how teams draft seems more important than one's own opinion.

his Geno comments were more about refuting the work ethic stuff that other guy had brought up in his analysis/ anti-Geno piece. in that case, I think he was right to seek out other opinions from scouts (or pull up notes he'd had from them previously) to see if what was said had any merit.

No clear cut top guys in this draft imo. A lot of guys could go a lot of places.

.......

you can get all of that information from an NFL reporter...you don't think they have sources? You don't need to labeled with a specific title like "NFL draft analyst" to talk with scouts

ignant, just ignant

It's funny how everyone loves to bash on these guys with their predictions. Who is better? Nobody will ever be able to predict exactly what happens in the draft b/c teams are always putting out false information hoping to trade up or down.

I don't want to just know what teams are thinking. I can go read about that from an individual beat reporter.

That's why I only watch NFL Network leading up to the draft. The provide a mix of both.

He's a top 5 lock right now, why is top 3 a stretch? Some teams just really need a CB and the FA now consists just of Revis basically, and he is going to the Bucs.

I'm a bit sketched out on a franchise taking a cornerback with in the top 3.
Sure he was a combine beast. But, it's a bit of a stretch imo.
