Josh Dubow's article in The Shreveport
Times about Matt Flynn ends incorrectly. It says that Matt only played backup quarterback to J. Russell at L.S.U. Why does he not know that Matt led L.S.U. to the National Championship?
I guess that I am just proud of Matt and would like to see the whole background story not just a misleading backup only version.

Who says he didn't know? The connection that he played behind/with JaMarcus is only provided because of the history between JaMarcus and the Raiders. If he signed with a different team, Flynn's LSU career may not have been mentioned at all.

ETA: Link to story.

How do propose he prove it? It's not like he can just provide a link to the story.

"Flynn, a backup in college at LSU to former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, has started just two games in five seasons as a pro. But it's those brief appearances that intrigue many NFL teams."

Just poor/lazy writing, in terms of providing context.

No it doesn't.

quote:

It simply says he was a back up to JR at LSU (and he was, for four years and two coaching staffs.) Those two sentences were merely there because of the connection between Flynn and Russel while at LSU and now in Oakland...it's not history lesson of Flynn's total collegiate career.

I guess you could argue he could have pointed out that this will be the second time Flynn will be following Russell into the starting role on a team...

is not this:

Words matter. You can't insert a word and claim someone said it.

Also, If you type LSU without the period we will still know what you're referencing.

It certainly leads an uninformed reader down the road that he has never been in the starter roll in college or pros. Not mentioning his national championship year is a lie by omission if he were trying to educate his readers.

Rudy: That I was somebody.
Fortune: Oh you are so full of crap. You're 5 feet nothin', a 100 and nothin', and you got hardly a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in with the best college football team in the land for two years. And you're also gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this lifetime, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody.

He was. He got to start when JR left. Now he goes to a place JR was once the starter. The article has no bearing to him winning a title at LSU

yes, but the article talks about his lack of experience as a starter, and they use his being a backup to JR as more evidence. they talk about him having only started 2 games in the NFL and make it sound as if he never started in college either with that statement about backing up Jamarcus, failing to mention he was the starter in 2007

Skip Bayless said today that he had watched Matt Flynn throw 3 TD passes against his Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS championship.

Well...at least the QB was named Matt. Too bad he didn't throw 3 TD passes

I see your point, but I would offer that the author (perhaps unintentionally) links Flynn to Russell which naturally invokes the memories of the negativity associated with JaMarcus Russell's time in Oakland.

In addition, leaving that out implies that Flynn was not as good as Russell at LSU, therefore Oakland fans should not have high hopes. It might have added to the article to show that Flynn had that success at LSU (not unlike Russell) and should not necessarily be seen as the second coming of Russell just because both attended LSU. The way the article is written, it leaves it open to interpretation.

In the end, I wish Flynn all the best in his new job!!!

Matt Flynn = Timmy Tebow, except even Tebow only threw 2 TDs.

The article only writes about him being a backup, it does not give a clear correct picture of Matt's history, or ability. As a backup at Green Bay, I think I am correct in stating that Matt broke the single games scoring records of both Rogers,(Rodgers) and Farve.

At least I hope he does come out as a starter now. He is too good, in my opinion, to be just a backup.
