Smoke recruited some crap arse talent in his last few years. In the next few seasons, you will start to see players from Mainieri's 07 and 08 classes.

Nola is nowhere near triple A. He's in A ball.

He didn't recruit crap, for years turtle Thomas and Lsu recruited wayyyy to many unsignable kids, thus, they never ended up at Lsu.

He got to play in the zephyr marlins game but only because he's from the area.

He recruited players that had a snowball's chance in hell of coming to college and was left with crap, so yeah, he brought in crap.

He brought in crap, but it isn't because he recruited crap like you said. The problem was exactly opposite what you said; he recruited kids that were too good.

Thomas is considered one of the premiere college baseball recruiters in the nation, thanks to 18 straight recruiting classes ranked among Collegiate Baseball's Top 10 at both Miami and LSU. He is the only recruiting coordinator in the nation who has signed the number one rated class four times, and he has never had a class rated lower than ninth over the past 18 years. Thomas has also signed the #2 rated class four times. Every class he signed at LSU was ranked in the Top 6, including his 2004 class which was considered #1 in the country.
It was boom or bust and because Lsu lost a fair share, if their highly touted kids didn't pan out, they were not as deep as they needed. They missed out on a lot of the kids who would have been solid sec caliber players.

I don't really follow baseball, but what about Brian Wilson?

that's the same as recruiting crap. as a college baseball coach, you have to be able to manage your recruiting and focus on guys that have a realistic chance at actually going to college. smoke never did that. it's pointless to get a bunch of guys to commit that will be drafted in the first 10 rounds out of high school.

We probably would have the most MLB players if they actually signed with LSU first.
