We are probably about even on that actually.

Anybody talking about the R9 390X?
Posted on 3/5/15 at 10:17 am to LewDawg
I want one. But I may settle for the 380x. Tough to justify dropping a grand on a monitor and gpu when the ones I have are fine.

We've talked about it a good bit in this thread. Still waiting for pricing data and real-world tests though.

Started a thread over on the tech board asking this and it doesn't have anything to do with gaming, but what's your opinion of the Surface Pro 3?
My current laptop is 5 years old and I'm looking for a new one. Plus I've never had a tablet and I would like to have one. So naturally the Surface Pro 3 was the first thing that came to mind since it's a tablet/laptop. At least that's what it's advertised as. All of the reviews look great for it and hawgfaninc recommended buying one. I wouldn't use it for gaming since I have my desktop now. It would be mainly for work, social media, and youtube.

I've never used one, but I know others here have and love it. It seems like a solidly built, serious machine with excellent portability. As an outsider with no hands-on experience, here are my own personal cons on owning one as a laptop:
- Screen is too small for the type of productivity I'm used to.
- I'm a work-wherever-I-want type of person when it comes to laptops, and the kickstand does not seem conducive to resting it on my lap unless I sat very still, or sitting indian style on the bed or floor, etc. It may not be a problem at all, but the only way for me find out would be to try it myself.
- Has the repairability/upgradeability of a tablet. Pretty much the only thing you can upgrade is the SSD, if you can get the screen off without breaking it (heat gun required most likely). iFixit gave it a rock-bottom repairability score. Not that I tend to upgrade laptops all that much, but I do like the comfort in knowing my way around a laptop's internals and being able to replace certain things with just a screwdriver. I can't imagine what the cost would be in the unlikely event one of those RAM chips shite the bed out of warranty.
- Kind of annoying that the keyboard is sold separately. Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot by not selling this thing as a full laptop that can be used as a tablet.
Those are just my personal peeves, but if you know what you're getting, there are really no cons. Based on specs, pics, and reviews, it's pretty close to perfect for what it's made for.

He's knowledgeable, and I've never disagreed with anything he's said, so I would consider his review trustworthy. It's thorough, too.

Vice and hammer method. Seriously. If you've never done it before, the razor method is a good way to slice a tracer or nick one of the onboard transistor contacts and kill the CPU.

Do you think it's worth sending a TV back over some dead pixels? It's hard to see but I see it now that I know it's there.

That big cluster of dark pixels? I'd return it.
Posted on 3/7/15 at 2:19 pm to ILikeLSUToo
The smaller spots in the middle. The top dark clusters are actually the image on screen at the time.
Posted on 3/7/15 at 2:52 pm to Mr Gardoki
Oh, I don't know. It would probably drive me nuts knowing they're there. I'm guessing the manufacturer has a dead pixel policy depending on quantity and location, but if it's within the return period it wouldn't make a difference what that policy is. Is it from Amazon?
Posted on 3/7/15 at 3:09 pm to ILikeLSUToo
It is from Amazon. The question is if it's worth the effort knowing it may happen again.

Any of the reviews mention dead pixels on theirs? I honestly don't know the general rate of dead pixels on TVs, or if there are any on my TVs. I never check those, just my monitors. Manufacturers generally have a tolerance of about 3-5 dead/dark pixels a certain distance from the center of the screen (meaning, they'll pass a panel to be sold if they're under that threshold), but I have no idea how common it is. What brand is it?
Posted on 3/7/15 at 3:26 pm to ILikeLSUToo
Vizio. I don't remember any mention of them.
