Is he starting every game at Roma? Haven't been keeping up this year. He was too conservative with some of his passes tonight. I know he didn't want to risk turnovers in midfield, but passing to Edu in a crowd is going to lead to turnovers, might as well have some more risky passes

I need to watch the game again but Bradley was being conservative but I think that was the plan. I think Edu was okay but Jermaine Jones has been in good form lately, he would have been a good addition to the team today.

Having Jermaine would've definitely helped tonight but Edu filled in serviceably. Bradley looked to slow the game down tonight with safe passes by design. He looked great on the ball, and on defense as usual, the midfield revolves around him.

Agreed. They got exactly what they wanted out of this.

He played well today but I was somewhat disappointed. I feel like that passing percentage is a bit inflated. He often opted for the painfully simple pass instead of a more adventurous one.

Completing simple passes is important in certain systems, but not the one we ran today. I'd like to see a percentage of loss of possessions immediately following a Bradley pass.

I just don't see the positive side in making a 3 yard backward or sideways pass to a player who immediately clears it..if that makes sense. I know that isn't necessarily Bradley's fault, but until he has a couple players around him capable of making decisive forward passes, I'd really like to see him attempt a more dangerous ball every once in a while.

I honestly don't think he feels very comfortable with Edu or with how the midfield was constructed tonight. I was a bit drunk but it seems to me that he was trying to play it conservatively for that reason.

I think the danger in him trying a more dangerous pass is that the midfield gets a bit more spread out and there are more holes for Mexico to exploit. It's boring to watch and it looks like shite for the most part but a little short, short, long is valuable if you're trying to keep a solid defensive shape and pick your moments on when to attack.

Like I said though, I watched the game with beer and a lot of emotion so if you wanted my typically brilliant tactical analysis, I'd have to rewatch.

I certainly understand why he does it, I just don't feel like he is as effective as he could be.

I wish he had more of a Xabi role instead of a Xavi role. I feel like his talent is wasted almost solely because he is head and shoulders above most of the squad.

Can you elaborate on that a little please?

The player that I want him to become is Michael Ballack. I think he's best in the box-to-box mold. He's in outstanding shape, is a good tackler, good passer, good in the air, isn't afraid to put one on goal. I just wish we could unleash him.

Very similar to Xabi except he has never fully been a box-to-box player. He's the perfect combination of a DLP and holding mid. Strong in the air, on the ball and in a tackle. Massive passing range.

His great stamina and work rate is something we should really take advantage of.

Have you seen Ilkay Gundogan play much? He's the reason why I wish Michael Bradley could play for Jurgen Klopp. Their games have some similarities but the growth Gundogan has made recently is insane. He's gone from a decent attacking mid to a great all around midfielder.

I think playing with a guy like Stuart Holden would also help Bradley -- another guy who is a good passer and a competent enough tackler so Bradley doesn't have to play with his dick in his hand.

With the way the system is inevitably changing for the US, I wish Bradley would have been born a year or two later than he was.

He was definitely playing it close to the chest last night but that was the plan. When he did come forward it was effective (1-2 towards the end of the first half which was our best movement all night). I just dont think he had the freedom to do that all night last night

This.

I wasn't really interested in adventurous passes leading to loss of possession...

Our inability to move the ball with any pace up the pitch was the reason we had zero goal-scoring chances from open play. They were committing tons forward but we went sideways and backwards enough for them to get back. The only near chance we created was with quick forward passing. There were holes to be had in the center of the pitch, but we only even attempted to exploit them once.

It's not like we committed much to it outside of 5-10 minutes. I would have been really frustrated watching Dempsey and Altidore try to do something that they were clearly not suited to do if I went into last night's game thinking that we were going to get anything out of it.

I would have given a lot for Landon Donovan and pre-car accident Charlie Davies last night. Hell, I would have loved to see Beasley pushed forward, but that was not really an option.
