| Masters in Military History (Posted on 3/20/13 at 2:37 pm)
I'm thinking about going back to school for a Masters in military history. It's something I want to do, it has no real effect on my job or anything of that nature although it may open up new doors. Anyway I have seen some schools like Austin Peay or Norwich that offer online degrees. I'm thinking of going that route, anyone have any insightful info?

That's awesome you have money to literally set on fire during this economic squeeze.

As long as you will be paying cash and not financing it then go for it. ETA: If you're taking out student loans for this you're a moron.

I looked at the Austin Peay program, myself. I was enrolled briefly in APU/AMU, but I never got approved for tuition assistance. I was going to use my post-9/11 GI Bill, but ended up giving that to my youngest child. Opinions vary on the actual value/credibility of the programs, but I think that Austin Peay is the way to go, especially if you're spending your own money.

so lemme get this straight. You wanna get a masters and will likely not be compensated with more money in the workplace? You're likely gonna get student loans to afford it? You're doing it online instead of going to school and chasing tail? maybe you should just go to a library and read some military history books instead.

If he has the resources and money to do so then there is absolutely nothing wrong with pursuing knowledge. Especially if it is something he is very interested in. Go do your thing, Tiger. I have your back.

Yeah from everything I have researched Austin Peay or Norwich are the top two. Just wondering if anyone else was familiar with another program.

Dont need to chase tail, getting married in December. Im in retail management and sales, but I dont want an MBA or anything of that sort. My Bachelors is in History, and I want a Masters but not all history interests me enough to put in the work for it. But Military does, and Ive already read tons of books.

American Military University is run by former military people and is part of APUS. My gut take on them is they're trying to compete directly with Phoenix. They target military and federal employees heavily for that sweet, sweet educational assistance money. That's the only other program I considered, other than Austin Peay or Norwich (and I actually enrolled with them).
