the 22-250 thread got me thinking.. and while i have never used one on deer myself i know some that do. so what is the smallest (legal) rifle caliber you use on deer lets say in the last 5 years, i dont want go get into when you were 12 and hunted the first time.

for me i have a 243 that i use for calling some coyote. i take it from time to time deer hunting and with 100grain have not lost a single deer.

Used a .25-06 for two years.

Wasn't impressed at all. Sold it.

I have killed plenty of deer with a 22-250. Shot a buck about 275 yards with it when i was younger.

After contemplating the "how much you spend" thread. I'm glad my bullets can be picked up, sharpened and used again.

It's pretty typical "small and fast" results.

They work, but rarely exit.

I am a big fan of lighter grain bullets that shoot very fast. But having said that I would not use anything below 100gr high quality bullet shooting under 2700 fps. The reason is if you hit a shoulder with that light grain bullet it may not penetrate. This is the main reason why I stopped letting my kids shoot my 22-250.

Yeah in my younger days I have killed deer with a 22lr and even No6 squirrel shot but I would not recommend them as every day hunting rounds.

what bullet/grain? exit isnt all that important as long as you can get the shot where its supposed to be
