There are some really terrific bourbons out there that most people overlook. In many cases they are old brands that the manufacturers sell but don't support. Some offer a chance to taste something a little different, others are among the best bourbons you can buy, and all are great values. While a few have limited distribution, many are hiding in plain sight at your neighborhood whiskey monger.
Pretty good suggestions for the budget conscience or if you're just looking for a new house bourbon.

I judge myself for not having tried Weller 12 yet. I've been meaning to and for some reason it just continues to slip my mind. It's my on my to-do list for March.

Old Grand-Dad, discussed here on Monday, is one of the few high-rye bourbons and definitely the least expensive one. Its bonded expression has long been the best-selling bonded bourbon in the country. The bond usually sells for about $20,
Chuck turned me on to this one several years ago. I always have a bottle in my bunker.

The 100 Octane Old Grand Dad label says Bonded. Don't think it is in the true sense of the word.

Ancient Age may be the best value in bourbon.

Honestly anything that says straight bourbon on it is gonna have that same flavor , its the blended whiskys that get pretty nasty. I'd rather drink the cheapest straight bourbon than Seagrams 7

BT Mashbill #1 (low rye) Benchmark, Old Charter, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, George T Stagg BT Mashbill #2 (high rye) Ancient Age, Elmer T Lee, Rock Hill Farms, Hancock Reserve, Blantons BT Mashbill(wheated) #3 Wellers and Van Winkles Obviously, its not especially true for some of the older bourbons like Pappy, as they are blends of bourbons they have acquired through the years. But think its the plan moving foward. Todays weller will be tomorrows van winkle. Most of the brands depend on age and location in the warehouse, which will affect flavor.

I vaguely remembered this thread and bought Ancient Age today as a possible cheaper alternative to Charter. Would prefer the low rye ones I think. Are any of those from Mashbill #1 cheaper than Charter?
