| More and More Shows Moving Towards Longer Hiatus Breaks (Posted on 3/14/13 at 4:40 pm)
It sucks that so many of my shows go sometimes over a year between new seasons. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Louie, and South Park have all taken extended breaks. I get they don't want to sacrifice quality but that has left a real void of quality comedy shows right now. Are networks becoming more accepting of this? Larry David can basically wait 5 years between seasons and HBO will pay him to come back for another year.

For a show to do this, it has to have alot of credibility. LD has earned it, so have matt and trey Not so sure about Louis ck but he does have other options/leverage

But Larry proved his shows wouldn't be "crap" by following a normal schedule with Seinfeld. I've seen him say how much he hated that process but it just goes to show you that if talented enough, it won't be crap that is rushed out. Louie winning an Emmy didn't hurt his leverage.

The show tends to have a lot of credibility that can get away with this. Its not like the old days where you have to have a season out every year or people mostly forget about it. Now shows are on DVD, where people are continuously discovering them. If the show is good enough and there's no risk of losing the audience, then they'll allow the writers and cast to go off and do other projects as long as they'll come back, or give them more time to make the product better.

Another trend that needs to happen is airing an entire season with no breaks. 24 and Lost did this. Having a fall and spring season killed Jericho and Flashforward. I don't know how people can watch a CBS comedy with 2 weeks of new episodes followed by a month break followed by 1 week of new episodes followed by a break.

This is one of the reasons I'm happy I'm saving my money with no cable. Since I have to wait a few weeks for new episodes, I can wait another day and watch it the day after. I don't mind some shows taking breaks, because it seems when one of my shows goes on hiatus, another starts a new season. Revolving door of shows.

Imagine if Boardwalk Empire/Game of Thrones aired an episode then took 3 weeks off before airing a new one.
