The Saints signed Drew Brees after Sabin and the Dolphins decide to go with Dante Culpepper.

hope everyone got to see the Deadspin story on the pranking of getting open conversation between two NFL GMs LINK. A couple of things really resonated in their talk.

Listen to THIS one Buddy Nix clip. Hear the desperation in his voice? Then...
0:38- these damn quarterbacks... if ya get one everything is easy from then on... We had Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers out there in San Diego. You can just draft and free wheel it. You can pick what's there and it doesn't matter... (his voice tails off as he says) We gotta get one somehow.

The NFL is only increasing as a QB driven league. No good QB and you are doomed. I never stop being thankful that we not only have one, but one of the top elite. Payton/Brees or Brees/Payton? I dunno but however you slice it the past 7 years have been golden in relation to the Saints franchise history. Here's hoping we never have to visit the black ages of the Billy Joes again.

While this seems true now, the past few years have shown teams can strike gold with rookie QBs and they don't even have to be first rounders.

With the league rules catering more and more to a pass happy NFL and cheap rookie quarterbacks making huge impacts in their first year, maybe the days of just a select few elite QBs winning Super Bowls are fleeting.

Was on beach with girlfiend(now wife). Friend called to tell me. It was overcast. We weren't sure his shoulder would get better .

the good young QBs seem to roll in waves every few years IMO. Has there ever been greater than 1983? One draft yielded Elway, Blackledge, Jim Kelly, Eason, O'Brien, Marino, & Kubiak- 3 HOFers.

The runners with the read option is a very fresh dynamic that no one has answered in full yet. The NFL has had similar new twists come along and eventually they all get answered. I see injuries being the biggest threat. You cannot afford to have your starter out for significant amounts of time. If it happens more than once you start questioning the risk/reward. Michael Vick is a case study for the diminishing value in risk/reward.

And everything has changed...

If Nick just would have taken Brees...

My LSU team would quite possibly have two more NC's (factor in the players LSU would have signed that Bama got)

F*ck. This move hurt both my teams.

C'mon on dude. Les with a MORE talented team and NO Saban?

LSU wins 2 more championships. I hate Nick Saban till this day for passing on Brees.
