Is there a chance that he will be a part of this class? I really wanted him in 2012, but with 2 TEs already commited for this class does he also get in.

And what about Jeremy Liggins?

We don't have 2 TEs committed for this class. Thomas still has a chance to be in this class. Jeremy Liggins will never be an option for LSU again.

Liggins is obviously a no but I dont think we are after Thomas really, he's not doing anything at his JUCO. McNeil would be a much better take.

You keep saying that, but it doesn't make any sense. We need to bring in another guy that can block, and he's doing that on almost every play. His stats aren't much different than Logan Stokes'. His stats also aren't much different than any of our TEs last year.

Since we wouldn't be bringing him primarily as a pass receiving threat, what do his receiving stats matter?

I was assuming that anthony jones was a commit. He will be a tiger though.

What doesnt make any sense is pure blocking TEs. Whoever came up with the idea to use a small OT essentially with no hands as a blocker has absolutely no imagination. I still have no clue why many teams still use blocking TEs.

It's pretty simple, if you are going to run, bring in an extra OL over a blocking a TE. Stanford has been doing this right for a while now. Also, a OT typically will be a much better pass blocker, so say you run play action, the extra OT will be a much better pass blocker than your "blocking TE" (if he doesnt go out on a route). Even if the blocking TE goes out on a route, the defense knows he's no threat, so he's a just a complete waste at that point.

The "blocking TE" position needs to die. It has absolutely no schematic advantage over bringing a OT out there instead. TEs are supposed to be decent blockers and decent receivers, not just decent blockers. If all you have is a decent blocker at TE, he's worthless in the grand scheme of things.

Who said he was a pure blocking TE? I said he's a guy that can block. He was also freakishly athletic in high school, so I assume that if we're still recruiting him, which we are, that he hasn't lost all of that. We can't just take tall thin guys that look the part but never lined up next to a tackle, there has to be balance.

The rest of your little diatribe is obsolete since you decided to argue against a concept no one purported in this thread. But keep on tilting at all those windmills.

Thomas is a pure blocking TE. He's not going to be a guy that's going to be a receiving threat like DeSean Smith. Hence the reason for my post. As blocking TEs as a position are absolutely retarded. With Cameron on board, hopefully he can teach Miles and Ensminger a thing or two on what an actual TE should be able to do.

Every "blocking TE" should just bulk up and become a OT and practice with the OL. Would make way more sense.

Has any team ever just put an OT in the TE spot unapologetically? Seems like the way to go with a mobile qb.

I saw Atlanta bring on an extra OT in a goal line situation and actually threw to him for a TD. It was pretty cool to see a lineman catch a TD

Florida also did this to us a lot in the game last year. They scored one of their running touchdowns in the set

I think it's somewhat common. Anytime they announce so and so is an eligible receiver they are bringing an extra lineman

It is common to bring on extra linemen, but not to throw to them

Andy Dodd was playing full time tight end. He wasn't brought on in certain situations as an "extra lineman"

I'm not saying he was...I'm saying he could be. Obviously he should be a better blocker than a typical tight end, and he has amazing hands considering his size. Why would you not want to bring in an extra offensive lineman in goalline situations that could still be somewhat of a threat catching the ball.
