I'm heavily considering pulling the trigger on purchasing one of these. The ambidextrous safety/de cocker/slide release is a nice touch for someone like me trying to improve my offhand shooting. Held one at a gun show and i liked how it felt but I've yet to fire one. Can the outdoor board offer some inside knowledge on the pistol I may not have? Issues? Likes/dislikes? It would be appreciated.

What's the difference between it and an FNP 40? I have one and it is a great gun. No FTFs in 100s, maybe thousands, of rounds.

I didn't hold the fnp40 but I held the nine and the difference I noticed was the lack of a hammer on the P giving it a bit of a glockish look. originally I wanted the P but I've veered towards the double action for some reason. I guess I like the hammer.

I hear you. After this purchase next on my list is a 1911. I'm eyeing the range officer from Springfield so I've got the 45 covered, but this is my first pistol purchase. I'm aiming to work my way up as I gain the experience.

FNX is an updated version of the FNP, FNS is the latest striker fired model (no external hammer).
I had the .45 FNP, loved it, but sold it because of the cost of ammo and I thought they were going to bring out a compact version.
I'm going to get the FNS in 9mm.

I don't feel like going to much into it but .40 is a notoriously "snappy" caliber.
I'd take 45, 9, and 357 sig over .40 any day but you do you. Personal preference is the most important factor when it comes to firearms and I'd be damned if someone on the Internet talked me out of what I wanted.
But I would go and shoot a couple of 40 cals if you've never fired them before just to get a feel for the round

I agree on personal preference taking priority but I wouldn't have come to the OB if I wasn't seeking different opinions. From what I can gather noone seems to have an issue with the pistol and its a quality purchase. Especially for the price tag.

I dont get all the .40 hate on this board. I'e only been here a few months, but I dont think I've seen anyone here say a positive thing about the round.

I've said positive things about it a few times. I like my XDM .40. Don't know where the snapiness comes from.

I'm in love with my XD40, but I'm a little confused when people say the .40 is "snappy". Maybe I havent shoot enough, but I have shot 9's, .45, etc plenty of times and I dont get it.

So the guy behind the gun counter is trying to sell me on the FXP 40 over the FNX. The only difference between the two being that the FXP holds four extra rounds. His theory is that the FNX is California friendly and the mags have a blocker in them. Any validity to this? I'd hate to buy the gun and it not have the same feel as the one I've already gotten hands on.

More rounds can't be a bad thing 
I don't have anything against the 40 I just dont think it does anything better than any other rounds

It is just a matter of preference. I prefer a stronger, but more solid recoil (.45 or 10mm) to what I perceive to be the snappier/jerkier recoil of the .40. I shoot the .40 fine, I just don't enjoy it as much. I hear a lot of people say the same, so I guess it is relatively common.
I'm trying to consolidate calibers to save on ammo, so the .40 was an easy choice to get rid of.

DD, I agree that the recoil of the 40 is "snappy" compared to that of the 9mm and 45. By that I mean that when similar loads of each are shot in guns of similar weight, there is more muzzle flip w/ the 40. There's a good video on Youtube that shows this. I just sold my only 40, not because I hate it or have a grudge against it, but because I just don't have a role for it (I prefer 9mm and 45) and because I also want to simplify my ammo.
