This is only my second trip, and we only fished yoyo's at night. I'm going to get there a little earlier this time and do a little riding around.

We launched at the north end of the lake last time and only went a couple hundred yards to the right and started tying them in the trees. We caught about a dozen decent sacs in just a few hours.

This time we're staying all night and gonna put out more yoyo's so hopefully we do a little better.

That's right before the spillway. There's a channel that runs along that tree line. Here's a picture of it when the water was drawn down.

The first hour and a half or two right after sundown will be the best then again right before sunrise.

Just free advice, but I stay with mine the first couple of hours. A fish on a yo-yo means you can't catch another so I run them/re-bait during prime time.

Then I go make a fire and cook or re-heat something I brought to kill some time then run them again.

About 2 hours before sunrise I run them all and re-bait then come back right when I can see again.

Geauxtiga, that's exactly where we started putting them out was at that point on the right side of your first pic.

From your knowledge, is that a good spot or should we try a different place? It all looked pretty much the same to me, and I liked the short boat ride in the dark.

It's a pretty good spot. You have the best of all worlds, as you can see. There's shallower water with channels. White perch use channels.

I've never set yo-yo's this late, at Chicot, so I'm not sure where to suggest you set but they may be moving into shallower water. There, you have a shot either way.

I've fished both North and South and have done well.

Continuing on into the main channel past the spillway, I've caught there too. The channel is deep but also shallow as it moves toward the bank.

Oh and looking at that 2nd picture, on the far end, there's a little channel that takes you back to the right and opens up. I wouldn't fish past where you can see in the pic.

Have seen yo-yo's there at times when I was catching elsewhere but they weren't. Now, if you hang to the right past that point, I've seen some slabs hanging on that side.

If it's warm, be ready to race aligators to your yo-yo's to get your fish off though, seriously.

Never fished there but wanted to make a trip. Have no idea where to launch or fish. From what I can't tell the whole lake is scattered cypress trees
