I never see this group mentioned on this forum but I that think their music is amazing.
This short-lived band may have rivaled U2's success in the 80's had it not been for Ian Curtis's premature death.
Transmission
New Dawn Fades

Agreed. MTV wielded a lot of influence on a new band's success or failure.
U2 was actually talented, which proved to be incredibly fortunate for them.

Awesome band. Really a post punk movement to me. I also love inxs and echo and the bunnymen. The 80s had some awesome music. Transmission is probably my favorite song by JD

They have been brought up some. One of my favorite bands. They got their due and then some even without Ian with New Order.
Peter Hook just released a book about time in Joy Division. Think it's his second book.

I really only listen to Love Will Tear Us Apart. Swans cover is great too.

The INXS version is better

Bernard Sumner's guitar really expressed JD's point of view—gloomy, hard-edged, driving sound. Transmission and Shadowplay are among my top 100 all-time rock songs.

Ive always preferred New Order to Joy Division, but they had their moments...

Same.
And since no one will look it up,
Swans - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Interesting 1980 interview with Bono discussing Joy Division.
This was before U2's debut album was released (although I think it had already been recorded).

Did anyone check out the Anton Corbijn directed Ian Curtis biopic "Control".
Big fan of Anton's work and moderate fan of JD (prefer New Order) but wondered if the film was any good.

I thought the film was pretty good. Definitely worth watching if you have any interest at all in Joy Division.
