Probably not worth it with the next-gen around the corner.

Oh, he won't have to worry about getting a 720 anytime soon.

I'm looking at that one. Do you have to buy a separate internal/external hard drive with that one, though?

A PVR doesn't have a built in HD. It is merely a box to transfer the signal to both your TV so you can play and to a PC so you can record while playing. The PC is what does the recording and stores it on your PC HD.

this

I've had some issues with mine where it was being blocked by certain firewalls and such. There customer service SUCKS. It take them days to get back to you and when they do they talk you through obvious troubleshooting steps you've already done.

The device works great and it's super easy and pretty cheap. Just hope you don't have a "new" issue they have to get their techs to work out b/c you'll be waiting a while

It's plug and play out of the box though.

What about these Roxios?

Also, I'd probably give him my wife's laptop, but it's only a 2.2ghz Celeron. I know the minimum requirements for most of these systems is a 2.0ghz x2 processor, but think he could still get away with using it?
