CampFest 2013

CampFest is March 1-3 at Chicot State Park. It is an annual event of the Louisiana Hiking Club. If you're not a member and you like to take occasional hikes, I highly recommend it. There is a "second Saturday hike" every month. Many of us are also avid campers, from car camping to backwoods camping. We also usually have a big weeklong trip every year. (In the past we've gone to Big Bend, Smoky Mountains, Washington State, North Carolina, etc).
Campfest is a great family event. Everyone sets up tents in the area and there are events throughout the day for everyone from canoeing to hiking to classes. Vendors also present to demonstrate new products for camping, backpacking, canoing, kayaking, etc.

Campfest Fee is $5.00 for members of the Louisiana Hiking Club, or $15.00 for non members ($5.00 fee + $10.00 membership fee). Membership applies to an entire household, i.e. $10.00 per year for an entire family living in the same house.
Bring a side dish for the pot-luck dinner on Saturday night. Main course is prepared by the Hiking Club. There will be lots of door prizes given out as well.
Camp Fest is just a week away! Pack your gear, prepare a potluck dish, and join us for a fun-filled weekend.
Directions to the Chicot State Park conference center:
(PLEASE NOTE – the conference center is on the opposite side of the lake, and on a different road, from the main park entrance)
- From I-49, take Exit #46 onto Hwy 106.
- Turn west onto Hwy 106 and follow approximately 3.4 miles to Spillway Road, a small road on the left, just beyond the CLECO power plant (just before a curve to the left)
- Follow Spillway road until it dead-ends at the Conference Center.
