How is the economy and gas prices affecting your outdoors lifestyle?

It's gotten so bad for me I'm about to just sell my boat and just ride along with friends. I mean,I really can't just hook up and take off by myself anymore with my boat. I have to have someone with me to help offset the cost and still sometimes it's way too much.

Why don't you sell one of your planes?

It's affecting my whole lifestyle. shite costs so much. I went to the grocery store after work yesterday got like 10 things and I was $90.
Filled my pick up up Sunday and it was $87. Can't just rip and run anymore. Normally I'd go dick off at the camp on weekends, but I can't do that as much anymore.

I hasn't sunk in yet for us. Wait till the big boats are taken out of mothballs. If the price of gas is still high/higher it'll be expensive to get to Last Isle.

Not really affecting mine, but it does piss me off. Absolutely no reason for fuel of any kind to be over $3 a gallon.

Used to just take off to Big Lake or Buras or go night fishing the L&N train bridge @ Lake Borgne.
Have to plan that shite now, actually save a little out of each paycheck to make it possible. Sucks so bad.

But this has been going on for years now. Summer of 2008 we were paying $4.50 a gallon on Grand Isle. Fishing is expensive.

I made a concious decision a few years ago to focus on quality of hunting/fishing as opposed to quantity of time spent afield. The economy, lease prices, fuel and whatnot certainly weighed in on the decision but so too did being a new father, grad student, etc.
I used to hunt and fish all the time. I figured that what I spent on gas, dues, etc could be lumped together and rather than hunting/fishing all the time I could do one or two trips a year to parts unknown. It's among the best decisions I've ever made. I've enjoyed much better hunting/fishing albeit less frequently and made memories that will last a lifetime. In addition, its given me the opportunity to see much of this beautiful country we live in and make a few friends along the way.

Not really so much outdoor stuff..
that being said, I'm a couple of hours from loading up and heading down to S La for the rest of the week to fish/hopefully watch some baseball, I'm dreading the gas cost

Being a poor college kid it has huge effects on me. I can still afford to maintain my equipment and hunt/fish on the weekends but I have to work upwards of 50 hours a week to do it all

We always fill up in westbank or BR, it really makes a big difference

It really hasn't affected me...yet. Of course, I don't have a big boat to fill up every weekend either. My kayak's gas bill is quite cheap.

Would if we could. Boat stays on the Island.

My property is about 2 hours south of Gainesville, I used to head down there at least every other weekend to scout/hunt/fish or just camp out but this semester i've only been able to head down there 2 or 3 times due to gas prices.. Thankfully Spring break is the whole week before turkey season so I'll have that whole week to scout for opening day

That's the good thing about ki- ing.
That being said, I still have to haul it somewhere and $90 a tank of gas sucks. I went to Raceland and back Friday to rabbit hunt and burned over $45 of gas. Not to mention not finding any ammo to shoot my pistol for fun. Hope and Change baby.....Hope and Change.

Just don't be picky when doing your hunting and fishing. Just put some meat in the freezer

Good for you, the property I was going to lease for my own hunting is under water. Unless the local turkeys have webbed feet I'm not going to do much there. Not looking promising for me in FL this year. I've got a place or two I may be able to slip into but I'm way behind the eight ball at this point.

I might be taking my wife's Civic turkey hunting this year since my lease is 2 hours away

I'll have to limit my fishing trips to local areas. Try and conserve gas while in my boat which means very little scouting / run and gun and more of going to a select spot and picking it apart. I fish every Monday in the summer and will likely cut back by one or two days a month
