A supervisor from Associated Grocers told me that Rouses bought out Hi Nabor on Drusilla lease.

I thought Piggly Wiggly was moving into the Drusilla location.

If they would mow down the building and start from scratch it's a great location.

But if they go in with minor renovations it will still be a shithole.

Guess all the Crifasis are cashing out of the grocery business.

I posted this last weekend and someone responded that Leblanc's would be in within a few months.

A & P has been out of Louisiana for years and really even the South. I think they are mostly just in the Northeast.

The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. Grew up shopping at the A&P Lobdell and Jefferson with K&B next door. Current home of Goodwood Hardware.

Are rouse's all that? I know their thing is how they're local to La, but the ones that I've been in aren't all that awesome. They have cool components to them, but overall I wasn't ever really wowed

LeBlancs is the only store in Baton Rouge area that is comparable to Rouse's. No independent can touch LeBlancs or Rouses selection.

Ok. I was just typing. I'm an old A&P fan.

And the linked thread: Calvin's started out as a Winn Dixie with a TG & Y Five and Dime next to it along with Dearmans Rexall Drugstore, Aurthurs Barber Shop, Keans Laundry and Wade Lemoines Esso ( which was where LaMadeline is now and it was called Twin Cedars Shopping Center. Old Hammond and Jefferson were two lanes with deep ditches.

Calvin's then became Bocage IGA ( if it was a Piggly Wiggly it was short lived) and it was owned by Zigler who also owned the Acadian IGA next to the Caterie and an IGA on Scenic somewhere across from Exxon in that area.

Calvin was a bag boy and when Zigler wanted out Dr Hill toted the note for Calvin.

Sorry Slash for the hijack. Just bored.

They must have some younger and smarter people in their mgmt ranks, because they have really gotten much better with their newer stores and remodels.

The downtown N.O. store and the one on Veterans in Metairie (by Causeway) are pretty damn good. I hear some of the other newer ones in other areas are legit too.

My father was once the manager of that TG & Y. When I was growing up, I used to go down to Dearman's and read comic books all day. Years later, when I also was working for TG&Y, I presided over the closing of that store. A new larger family center store was opened in the Drusilla shopping center.

Yep and I think we've talked about this before. The TG&Y Family Center was next door to the Winn Dixie that is now the Hi Nabor Slash is talking about.

So we've brought the thread full circle.

I bought school supplies in both those TG&Y's and I'd have to say I miss them.
