It's very doubtful either will need to play this season. So they'll both redshirt. If one of them doesn't, then both Mett and Rivers are injured.

You clearly underestimate The Rant. Give them time....

There is a thread every other week that says Rivers should get the start heck people are still saying Bolden should. Its a dumb minority but still

Both will probably RS. Especially with Cam having coached Philip. Stephen also grew even more he is like 6'9" now he could be like that ASU QB.

kid has never even played and going into his 3rd year and he about to be beat out for the backup job by a freshman. It's not happening and to tell you the truth it wouldn't surprise me if he's the starter the next two years at LSU after mett.

It happens all the time chief. After the established experienced guy leaves then that leaves you with a guy with no significant playing time and average from most accounts QB, competing with the star or stars just brought in a year ago or even true freshmen. I'd love a freshman ready to take the reigns like Manziel, Colt McCoy, Danny O'Brien, RG3, Chad Henne etc.

I wouldn't mind them redshirting one and not the other to stagger their years.

Not "all the time." But I see your point. My issue is posters saying that Rivers is not any good at all. Kid hasn't been on the field to justify that comment. Unless you're at practice, no one here knows how good or bad Rivers is on the field. He's obviously go the size and from what I've seen, he's got decent arm strength. The only thing that we don't know is what is above the shoulders.

All exceptions, not the rules. I'm sure every team/coach/fan in the country would like a freshman QB to play like those guys did, but 98% of the time, they don't and they won't.

One of the two freshmen QBs could easily beat him out this spring/fall.

Easily?

I'm not saying it is impossible, but the two freshman could end up being really good a couple of years from now...and still not beat out Rivers this year.

That will change when Jennings takes over the back-up role.

Zach better have his shite together.

You got a source? Because unless you watch practice, there's nothing Rivers has done to conclude that he's just not very good.

You rarely ever read anything positive on him. Watching practice videos nothing ever stands out about him. He was a marginal prospect out of high school the Alabama schools didn't want. He has QB pedigree and great size, but beyond that, there's not a great skillset there. What does he do that's so good?

Matter of fact, going into the Spring, the coaches were saying he had fantastic NCG practices and he was moving along like he should be.

Seriously? They sunshine pump about everything.

What's the knock on Rivers and why would freshmen QB's come in and be able to knock him down the depth chart when they don't even know the playbook etc etc?

That's why I said not only through spring but also fall. Rivers absolutely has the learning curve edge going into his 2nd spring and 3rd fall practice sets but do you think he's more talented than Jennings or Rettig? I really dont (and many others see that as well) and think they can show him up early on...the hardest part the young guys will have to overcome is their lack of any chemistry or knowledge to start with, but things like that can change once the season starts coming up.

I think the only way Rivers holds onto the 2nd string job all through next year is 1. Mett doesnt get hurt for an extended period of time and 2. Neither freshman can pickup the playbook at all. Which is likely can happen, but I think either freshman has a great shot of taking the job away from him eventually. Most folks dont see Rivers as our next starting QB, they see Jennings or Rettig being that guy.

One (or maybe both) will not be here 5 years from now, so why burn a year with garbage time, that they could use when they transfer?

IMO Jennings has a chance to play sooner than Rettig. I like the thought of splitting their eligibility up.

No it's not. Doesn't have anything to do with what I wrote and corrects nothing of what I said. If Rettig or Jennings play over Rivers they will still be freshmen redshirt or true. A guy coming in good enough to start 3-4 straight years is what I want to see at LSU.

Pointing out the freshmen you listed were redshirted in a thread asking if our freshmen will redshirt proves nothing and is not a good catch?
