I understand that. Im not saying trade him for scraps just because he might get injured again. If the deal doesn't make sense, then obviously I don't want to trade him.

I wasn't advocating a trade to MIL for Ellis/Harris. Just wanted to present the rumor, talk about it, and explore it further. I knew how it would be received

I read they signed him earlier.

Dude might get a chance to ball out. Perfect spot for him.

Jesus that would be a terrible trade. We hold all the power in a potential Gordon trade for the next year and a half. It would be dumb to trade him now for anything that isn't clearly slanted in our favor

Right on cue, Mahoney with a piece on Ellis. It isn't flattering

LINK

He breaks down the flaws and the pluses to Ellis's game in three sections-

-He needs to be hidden defensively
-He should not be a team’s primary ball handler
-He’s too talented a slasher — and too limited an outside shooter — to work exclusively off the ball

Here is his parting shot

quote:

teams can’t just pick up Ellis on a whim in the same way that they might conceivably acquire, say, J.J. Redick. This is a player with the potential for a decent offensive payoff, but with a game that has to be carefully managed. Even squeezing Ellis into the right role will require a certain amount of creativity and finesse, thereby introducing more uncertainty than most deadline suitors are typically comfortable accepting.

Pretty much supports my thoughts. I don't see how he would fit here.

Ellis is similar to MT5, just wouldn't work in Monty's system

So does Kobe. Is Kobe not a selfish player?

Being "selfish" obviously carries a negative connotation.

If a guy can shoot the ball 19 times a game and shoot over 45%, win 5 titles, and assist the ball almost 5 times a game, then no, he isn't selfish.

Ellis has only led his team in shot attempts 2 times in 7 seasons. He shoots 46% for his career. He averages 4.6 assists per game. As a PG/SG.

Call it what you will.

maybe selfish, but also effective.

If he was shooting like 40% and not passing the ball, then he could be called selfish.

I mean, Jordan shot 23 times a game (50%) and averaged 5 apg. Selfish amirite?

Volume shooters are absolutely necessary on any team. You don't want a team of chuckers, because then you are the Kings.

But you need a couple of guys who can make something out of nothing- even if they aren't always the most efficient.

I personally rate assists lower than many do.

Your point has merit, but one must have the ability to score in a many ways so that opponents can't be maximally effective all the time. Assists don't have to be a part of it, and being selfish is ok if the talent lies in both the selfish player and someone else so that there is an effective outlet. Not meh effective. E-friggen-fective.

So I need a little more than you outline to buy in whole hog.

Also: No Monta

What about Gordon for Afflalo and Reddick? Anyway Orlando is dumb enough to make that trade?

This guy reminds me of Jamal Mashburn. He is def a good player, he just doesn't do anything else besides shooting.

He is a career 44% shooter averaging 18 per game, 3.3 Assists per game, and 2.6 rebounds per game.

He needs to do something else besides scoring to make me want to keep him around. At least Ryan Anderson rebounds

I was actually agreeing.

...I think taking that many more shots than everyone else on your team is technically selfish, but if you're shooting a good percentage, it doesn't matter.

I hate chuckers...everyone CAN shoot it, but not everyone can make it.
