Last album was unlistenable.

Her early stuff is great, and I wish I had mentioned her. However, her latest album is even more unlistenable than Fiona's. It's an album of covers, and it's one of the worst things I've ever heard. I guess she gets a pass for it in this thread as the "songwriter" qualification doesn't apply to it.

Reason for this thread: I discovered Sharon Van Etten and wanted to delve deeper.

Love Van Etten! Also as singer/songwriter:
Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde)
Heather Nova
Lucinda Williams
Neko Case
Sinead O'Connor
Cat Power

Strictly vocals:
Kirsty Hawkshaw

I made this playlist "For Iona" for a thread on female vocalists a month or two ago. Most of my faves there.

You forgot this one (possibly my favorite rendition here).

She's got a bit of a Kate Bush meets Bjork thing going on.

I really dig "What else is there?"
