Hairston is indeed supposed to be kicking FGs this year. If he gets hurt or doesn't perform well, then we have excellent walk-on talent behind him (and that talent is why Mo Isom couldn't make the team, when the same talent would have been enough at almost any other school---though I'm not trying to hijack the thread into a Mo Isom discussion).

Craig Ford? I've seen where he's supposed to be one of the top kickers in the nation next season. Maybe that's why Les didn't go after a kicker this season?

You can grant up to 8 preferred walk-ons per year. Here is one of them. They typically make great scout team players and occasionally play as special teams guys. Good guys to have on the team because LSU is typically getting players that have D1 scholarship offers and they chose a preferred walk-on over those other schools.
