I have been a Directv customer for a long time but am looking for a change. I am also certain that the information I am asking for has been discussed ad nauseum but would like some good information on Hulu, Roku and Apple TV.

Something a little more in depth than saying Directv sucks (I know it does except for NFL package) or Apple TV is awesome (or Roku or Hulu...elaborate a little. If there is a previous link with good information that will be appreciated too. Are networks compatible with any of these systems? TIA

I've had directv for 4 years now, and my parents had it for probably 5 or so years before that. In those 9 years, I've never had any problems with it.

I am, however, considering canceling my service since the majority of my time is spent watching shows and movies on Amazon Prime or Netflix.

I still don't see why people hate directv other than the occasional rain.

Personally, I watch Netflix more than cable and don't mind waiting for new shows to come on Hulu the next day. So I cut the cord. I have a Roku. It lets me watch Netflix and stream content from my computer I downloaded. I haven't missed a beat. Use OTA antenna to get local stations and some sports.

I torrent some movies I want to watch or rent them from RedBox or from Vudu. Very simple and cheap.

Hog, I thought the same thing, and was really dreading pulling the plug like I kept saying I would. But oddly enough, I don't miss it one bit. I went from 2 HD DVRs, to an HD antenna, and streaming. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but I was surprised.

I'm a big sports guy.

So DirecTV is a must, between NHL Center Ice, NFL Sunday Ticket, and getting the Golf and Tennis experiences for free for the majors/grand slams is also must.

Add in top notch customer service, picture quality, and the Genie/Whole Home DVR, and I will never switch or have a reason to.

I'm not going to spend $1,600 on a TV and skimp out on the provider. If you are poor or have a cheap TV, then sure.

I love my direcTV. Maybe you should ask them to take you back.

AT&T Uverse or whatever is good too. Wife's family in Houston has it.

Agree...

I've had all of them (Direct, Cox, Comcast, U-Verse... and my father has Dish)

Directv is by FAR the best option out there... Customer service is top notch, quality is great, ease of use, etc.

The only way I could see anyone legitimately canning Direct would be to go streaming.

I grew up with Cox and no one liked it. When I lived in Mandeville I had Charter and actually liked it. But direct is great.

Yup, what puts it over the top is the ease of use and customer service. They have given me everything I have ever asked for. Once you get out of the initial contract, it is great.

As long as you don't get new equipment, any deal that they make you does not extend your contract.

If you want to go one and change programming, its simple as shite, just jump on the website and switch whatever you want, theres no waiting on hold and having to deal with customer service.

I actually need to go ahead and call to see what offers they will make me. My 6 months of free shite just ran out.
