Ruger GP100 357 Mag 4" or 6"

About to purchase my GP 100 357 Mag. Undecided in barrel length between 4" or 6". Which would you buy? Anyone one have or own either and your opinion.

Why? GP100 is a pretty good six shooter. I'm far from an expert though.

6in I had one and it was the most accurate handgun I have ever shot.

Don't like the lines of any Ruger DA. A Colt or Smith is much more appealing to me.

I have the GP100 6" and love it, although it's obviously not something I would carry concealed (don't think I could if I tried).
Very little recoil since the gun itself is so heavy. My hand hurts more from shooting my S&W J-Frame .38 Special than it does from the GP100 shooting .357 magnum.
I swapped out the front site for a tritium sight.

Not a tritium sight, it is a HiViz LitePipe sight.
And this:
I was amazed at how accurate I was with this revolver. Low recoil and a long barrel makes for a very accurate gun.

The GP100 is without question the best double action .357mag on the market for under $1000 IMO.

Do you mean fiber optic? That doesn't look like a night sight.
As for the OP, I'm with Downshift. It depends what you intend to do with it. Personally, if it's just a general purpose gun, I think a 4" is a good size. Think of it as a full sized, steel framed, semi-auto. That's about the size it is, but slightly bigger.

Be aware that a .357 fired out of a 6 inch barrel will perform/hit darn near like a .44 mag fired out of a 4 inch barrel.
I have a 4" barrel .357 and really enjoy it. Carry it for bear & cougar in New Mexico.
I wish I had a 6" barrel for moose and bear here in Alaska.

.357mag will scoot out of a 6+" barrel with hot loads, but its still no .44 mag.
A .44 is a fine caliber for handgun hunting, where the .357 is considered marginal on its good days.
I think with something like the GP100 (big, heavy) a 6" barrel just seems right. The 4" barrel is sort of the standard length for revolvers, but I'm not a huge fan of it for a few reasons.
The only disadvantages I find with the longer barrel are a longer draw stroke and the weight (which I see as a good thing when launching hot loads).
The advantage of the 6" barrel are a longer sight radius, more weight, much less muzzle flip, easier on the ears, and better performance. Mine has a 6.5" barrel and the length has never bothered me when carrying it.
The .357mag really comes to life at about 6" barrel and the ballistics start to get very impressive.

44mag gives that good shock wave through your body. The 357 is good but not nearly equal.
