Who lives in a house that came on wheels? I'm trying to move farther out into the sticks and the wife and I started talking about ordering a trailer to live in while we built our home. Depending on when/if we sell our house, something like this could be necessary for a temporary fix. I told her I was fine with buying one to live in forever. She's worried about the durability and what her friends would say, but I'm pretty sure vinyl siding has a lifespan longer than the average redneck, and I'm pretty sure they all know I'm from Livingston Parish anyway. What says the OB?

I've lived in three different ones. New ones are nice compared to the 60's and 70's models I had.

Would live in one again.

Build a house for the same money you would spend on a trailer. The house need not be fancy. I want a quaint little house off the beaten path. A trailer just doesn't hold together over the long haul. I have a 20 year old trailer for a camp and it needs some TLC.

I've lived in 3 different mobile homes and two houses, one on a slab and one on peir and beam and I was always the same person with the same friends and relatives. Although when I lived in Texas I had to act like an A-hole, it's state law.

I could live in a trailer while I was building a house, but I would not want to live in a trailer long term

If its just you and the wife...why not buy a nice travel trailer and stay in it while you build a house then after the house is built you have a travel trailer that you can use for vactions and trips.

The only problem with a manufactured home is that when there's a tornado or hurricane, you either gotta do some serious prayin or get the frick out.

another alternative is to build a steel "shed" and convert the inside into basic living quarters while building a new house

my buddy did this while building his house, and afterwards, he has a badass shed/man cave

Checking in. Wife and I decided to get one instead of buying land and building. Bewteen the two of us we will inherit 5 houses and 4,800 acres. Just made sense to get one and drop it in a fiels to raise the kids up in and not worry about breaking the bank.

We got one of the top brands. No complaint really. Some minor cosmetic issue due to it not being a solid structure ( crwn molding bowing/ spacing, some cracks in the sheet rock). Both my parents built houses and bought trailers to live in while building. May lose some money when you sell it but prob not as much as you'd lose if you rented.

This is why the OB is better. Think how this thread would have gone over on the OT.

Same here.

I have been looking at some of those modular homes. They look pretty nice and are built on slabs. You may want to check into one of those.
