I watched them this morning and they show signs of brilliance, but they don't seem to be elite status. Expected them to dominate their domestic league this year. Also, I believe there are at least 5 teams better than PSG in Champions League, maybe more?

They will probably be similar to City. Not that great in Europe but will have improved their league status. However, Ligue 1 is not the EPL so I agree. They will dominate for some years. It will probably take a few years for them to have success is Europe though.

I think this PSG side is actually fairly well built to compete in Europe, besides the fact that Zlatan sucks in the Champions League knockout rounds. They have quality incisive attacking midfielders in Lucas Moura, Pastore, Lavezzi that can feed Zlatan. They are obviously going to dominate Ligue 1 unless some other Qatari invests in Marseille, Lyon or another team in a major metropolitan area.

Which obviously explains their 3 point lead over OL who have a game in hand... PSG isn't managed particularly well, there's little cohesion in the side, and their goalkeeper isn't UCL quality.

It's basically the first year this group has played together... give em a little time.. If they can keep this core and add a key player here and there, they will be much better next season...

This thread is discussing the future of PSG. Any team with that much money compared to the rest of the clubs in its league is going to dominate for the foreseeable future. They are a bit sporadic as a team, but most hastily put together super teams take a season or two to mesh. See: Manchester City circa 2008, Chelsea circa 2004. Ancelotti has great European pedigree, so he can at least knows how to plan for a two leg tie.

Sirgu? He's better than a lot of the other UCL keepers...

Juve, Real, Barca, ManU, Celtic, Bayern, and Dortmund all have better keepers. Toss-up with Arsenal, Milan, and Schalke. He's not even the best keeper in France, and that's with Lloris going to England.

I think Salvatore Sirigu is a pretty good gk. I'd agree that he's not as good as Buffon, Casillas, Neuer but there's an argument to be made that he's just as good as any other remaining CL team's GK. I feel like he's a whole lot better than De Gea, for example, if he's still starting for ManU. At very least, he's certainly far from a weak point unless they were stepping down from Buffon in my opinion. I would agree that PSG's problem so far has a lot to do with so many players that are used to being the go-to guy not yet meshing with other stars. There also seems to be a drive/concentration issue when I watch them sometimes. Lavezzi, Pastore etc seem to have one incredible match and the next it's easy to not even realize they're on the pitch. Kind of like Nasri for City. In fact, the comparison with City above seems good with the exception that PSG's played like City's CL debacles in a third of their league matches: stupid red cards, forgetting to mark on a set piece etc. . . whereas City has overall been pretty consistent against EPL sides. I've probably seen only about a quarter of their league games but it seems it's either a 4-0 absolute domination or a 1-0 toss-up where they do control possession but never really create that many more clear chances than they allow in the 2-3 counters they face. I would also add that Ligue 1 isn't such a huge drop down from the top 4 leagues as some may think.

De Gea is a great keeper. He just isn't built for the Prem. His save % was the best in the league last season.

Maybe I've just seen him on his worst days but it's been 5 you-tube saves then a nervous, bone headed mental error too often. I'd still feel more comfortable with Sirigu in the CL knockout rounds than him.

The bone-headed moves have been eliminated for the most part, but you can't hold that against him at his age.

Totally agree about not holding the mental aspects/reading the game against a young keeper. In fact, I'd love it Roma could go ahead and get Mattia Perin and live the lumps for a while. However, I'd still very much prefer Sirigu for a CL knockout match right here, right now.
